    FLYTIPPING

The article you reference expresses concerns about the use of fly as an agricultural soil conditioner due to toxins. There are much better uses for fly ash . The best being as a cement substitute. Because of the toxins.
  3. I may be wrong but suspect lifejackets on narrowboats on the canals are rarely seen being worn.
  4. Should lifejackets or buoyancy aids be worn by skipper and crew when on the move regardless of being in a tunnel and regardless of the type of vessel? I am river based where, like wearing a seat belt in a car, a lifejacket is worn routinely (by most people).
  5. I think this might be the gravel barge pictured in the original post ?

  7. You are all assuming the boat pictured in the above posts is the subject of the piece . Bravo Lima appears to be about 9m in length. https://www.livetts.co.uk/fleet/bravo-lima-gb/ I agree boats of all sorts are referred to in feet , even some of those made in Germany for example. Distances at sea in Nm speed of boats in knots , depths on sea charts in metres, UK inland waterways signs in mph and some in km/h . What a mix up ! Now French - that's undeniably a foreign language, unless you happen to be French or from some other nation where French is spoken. Metres on the other hand are certainly are not foreign having been in common use the last 50 years in the UK.
  8. Consider this my thoughts for her recovery and a virtual wave from me .
  9. The flock seals need to be cleaned occasionally otherwise green algae and dirt will build up. Some cotton buds white vinegar or similar will help with this. Also make sure any drain holes in the frame are clear. Some condensation on the aluminium frames is inevitable at this time of year. Moisture traps or if you have shore power a dehumidifier may help to manage this . If you are aboard some hours or overnight then heating and ventilation is necessary to control condensation.

  11. There was a very thin coat of snow in Nottingham at the vaccination centre where we had our booster jab this morning. Grey wet and very breezy in Newark but no snow yet.

  17. If using the C&RT online payment method the BSC expiry date is already there on the account. Insurance you have to enter each year when you have the new details. I believe C&RT do random checks on insurance. I don't agree . Insurance is mandatory and that is exactly as it should be. 3rd party insurance is all that is required by C&RT which I understand is low cost .

  19. I think a full refit or a major alteration would strictly speaking require fresh BSS. But no one would be the wiser if this was disregarded.
  20. Sounds like you could have declared the boat off water and saved paying a C&RT license for a few months? In the circumstances you describe I suggest do nothing and if challenged by C&RT declare the boat off water and get a license refund. I went a few months without BSS and nothing bad happened ........my boat was on private water and declared off water.
