  1. Hi, just wondered where the nearest laundromat (self service) to Ancoats area is? I don't drive so near a tram stop would be good... tried Google to no avail so thought a bit of local knowledge was my best bet. Thanks!
  2. Thank you! I popped round to New Islington, it's only a couple of locks up. Such a shame it's closing; I was hoping to moor there. Don't suppose you know why?
  3. I'm stuck on the first bit of the Ashton canal with an empty water tank, so I'm going to have a scout around the Islington area. Can the marina be accessed from both branches of the canal? Also I heard the marina had been closed, anyone know if that's true? If so, I wonder whether the water point is still accessible....
  4. Indeed I did! There's still a fair bit of water up where I was, but I'm going to do a few errands whilst down on the Bridgewater. I love it here so much!! So industrial and steeped in hard work and history.
  5. This travesty is now rectified! ? Once again, I've learned the hard way!! ?
  6. Ohhh I'm all out but now I desperately want some! ? Will stock up at Aldi later... ?
  7. Water tank all filled up, thanks guys! Just nice to have a bit of encouragement & reassurance when on my own and doing all this for the first time. ?
  8. Yup, will get a temp license if I can't get back on the Rochdale ? I'm beginning to think that may be the case!! ? Thanks for being kind to a newbie Learning all these things the hard way!
  9. Will definitely shut them. The amount of times I've arrived at a lock to find them open is ridiculous. Might not matter so much usually but when there's this amount of water it's a bit worrying! Though I doubt anyone will be using them now until the canal is open again. Apart from me, like an idiot ?
  10. I'm pretty sure I can get down; the level keeps rising a little and then going down again from day to day... might have to moor on the Bridgewater for a week once I'm down there. Have to risk it, or no water for me until the works have finished!! My own fault.
  11. Is this a really bad idea? Would it make so much of a difference that I might not be able to get back up again? Yeah I had a scan for it on foot but wasn't sure what I was looking for! I didn't know whether I was literally looking for just a tap, or something a bit fancier. I'm literally learning on the go as and when I face problems! (However small and ridiculous they might seem to experienced boaters...!)
  12. Thank you! I wondered if it was there - walked past in the dark on the opposite side the other night but couldn't quite see. I'll give it a go! Thanks everyone for all your help, as always
  13. Thank you! I'll see if I can get there! Think if I carefully reverse down the centre I can just about make it. Is it obvious to see? Or is it inside a little shed or something? Sorry for lack of replies everyone - totally forgot to receive updates on the topic! Great start to the week... duh.
  14. Hello! Could someone tell me where the water point in Castlefield is please? I read it was a 'no charge' one, does this mean no extra charge but I need a key? Is it literally just a tap? Sorry, new to this and have only filled up once at the marina I set off from. All help is appreciated, thank you!
  15. Hello, I've been really unorganised and I haven't collected my water point key yet (I sent it to a friend's address but haven't had time to travel and collect it yet.) Does anyone in the Castlefield area possibly have one I could borrow tomorrow (Monday)? I'm all out of water. New to boating and didn't keep an eye on my water - totally my fault so I won't be offended if you all tell me to get lost! Will pay or provide alcohol of choice in return! This does depend on being able to move my boat - I'm on the first bit of the Rochdale canal and the water level has gone way down! Thanks for reading, as always.
  16. Pretty certain the windows were the main culprit. I temporarily fixed them with duct tape, which seems to have worked, judging by the lack of puddles this morning! That will have to do until summer, when I'll take the windows out and re seal them. Boards above the engine aren't great, so I think that's the main source, but will check the stern gland too (it DID leak slightly but was fixed.) Will get a tarp asap in the meantime. Not at all adverse to hard work and/or mucky jobs, I just asked about the Aquavac on the offchance. But, I guess towels and nappies it is! Thanks for your advice.
  17. That's an idea, thanks Steve ? That's exactly what happens to me. I need to sort out my windows really; that's where the rain gets in. That will have to wait though. I know it's not a huge problem - just don't like occasionally hearing water in the bilge! I guess I'll just get used to it
  18. What a lovely person you seem to be. Tried that with a fishtank once, didn't end well!
  19. Just to clarify: I didn't know the pound shop sold mops and buckets, the cheapest I found (and didn't buy) locally was £4, which as I said, I can't afford. I'm pleased for you if you've never experienced that level of poverty; please appreciate it instead of making assumptions and leaving snarky comments. Thank you to everyone who has tried to help.
  20. If you can neither be nice nor helpful, please don't speak to me.
  21. I assumed that was the case, thinking about it logically Well in all honesty it needs a repaint, so whilst the water's not really a problem, it's sort of in the way!! Good to know it's no big deal though, thanks ? The water in the bilge however, sploshes loudly occasionally and puts my nerves on edge, so I'll prioritise that.
  22. Yes, I should've specified it was under the stern gland. Will do that, thank you!
