  1. Thank you Athy, he was describing Hallmark and not calm waters though so hoping calm waters were a bit better, its a 10/6/4 , long well deck, gas locker at the bow, does not have that hallmark/ liverpool boats look about it at all. anyway it will all be revealed on wednesday when it is taken out for a full survey, it's the second boat i have had surveyed and it's not cheap as you know, thanks for your input
  2. thank you Linnit, i must admit that when i saw it ,it did not have that hallmark look about it, for a start the gas locker is at the bow , where as Hallmark cruiser sterns as with liverpool boats tend to be at the stern, also the well deck is of a decent size , again unlike the tiny well decks i have seen on hallmarks and liverpool boats for that matter, so, although i'm pretty sure you are right i am hoping that they may have upped their game with Calm waters. thanks for the helpful info.
  3. thanks for the reply but , no its definitely calm waters thanks for your reply Rob, great idea , forgot all about the good old boat index , thanks checking that next, may give me few leads, still suprise there isn't more on the internet, cheers mate

  5. HELLO ALL BOATERS. HAS ANYONE HEARD OF CALM WATERS NARROWBOATS ?. ALL I COULD FIND OUT IS THAT THE COMPANY DISSOLVED AROUND THE YEAR 2000. I AM HAVING 46FT CRUISER NARROWBOAT SURVEYED AND THE PRESENT OWNER AND I CAN AND COULD NOT FIND ANY MORE DETAILS OR HISTORY, A NY SCRAP OF INFO WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED, THANK YOU ALL.
  6. Hello boaters , now got my eye on a 40ft cruiser stern Willoughby Boat Co. , bmc 1,5 built in 1974 for £20,000 (which may be a bit cheap ??) do you know anything about this builder, i did a seach online and i guess they once built and hired out but not entirely sure, have you heard of this builder and were they budget boats or quite reputable builders, any scrap of info would be highly appreciated, thanks again for your time.
  7. hello boaters, i have just looked up another 40ft liverpool narrowboat for sale at £26.000, it all seems fine but i have one concern on theYammar KM2P-1 2cyl diesel engine, it is a 14hp and as i am not very glued up on diesel engines , wondered if it is under powered some what, i do not intend to cruise tidal rivers and would like your opinion , thanks again

  8. hello all, still looking for the right boat, i have just come back to see a 40ft boat for sale at norbury junction in Cheshire, it was built by Hallmark in 2000, the broker has no idea on the thickness of the baseplate and rest of hull, would anyone have any ideas as i would hate to have it out of water only to find out it was below 8mm. thank you all. happy cruising .

  9. that is the solution i think, thank you mate thank you all
  10. i suppose the most difficult part is making a new hole, does anyone know a good technician for the job , i dont see that in services offered in boat yards anywhere, thanks to all by the way
  11. Hello again everyone, the used 39ft semi trad that i am thinking of buying has the wood burning stove by the bow doors, i am worried that someone or myself may fall on it, BSS recommends it not to be there, is it a very complicated operation ?, is it common to re-position stoves ? , what happens to the hole left in the roof ?, and is it an expensive to have a qualified technician to do it for me ?, sorry for my ignorance, thank you all.
  12. thank you all , i now understand , i contacted the owner who finally replied and said flat. great
  13. hi, i am considering buying a 40ft cruiser stern narrowboat, the one i am thinking of getting has a displacement hull. would i be better off with a flat hull ?, and for what reasons. thank you all
  14. Ahoy to all , i am a new member and in the process of choosing from many 40-45ft narrowboats on the market, could any of you tell me if CASTLEFIELD were good narrowboat builders, i have just seen one for sale called WILLOW but it hasnt been blacked for 6 years, apart from that it looks great as far as i can see in photos, can someone tell me what they think and probably save me a trip to the marina and spend time looking elsewhere instead , thank and excuse my ignorance
