  2. I'm very impressed. Regularly missed planned deadlines by hours rather than minutes

  6. I'm thinking much the same. No shore power. Cheapo sealed batteries taken care of as well as I can (thanks for the wealth of info on here) binned every couple of years. Not a big cost vs. All the othe boat stuff!

  9. Small double is also known as a 3/4 double (4'). I was in Dunelm and they have fitted sheets in lots of colours for them. As for duvets, I thought the accepted wisdom was to go up one size, hence double duvet ideal. Stop the wife nicking the whole thing... Edit for typo.

  12. Too true. Micro homes with postage stamp gardens. And at a premium as *new*. I worked for a house builder...
  13. Ok. So reading through the thread if suggest this. Home mooring, fine we got that. Continuous cruise. I seems very clear that this covers (and I am very jealous of you) those on a journey through the network. iMHO if you have a fixed place of work or school this is NOT a model to fit. All I have read does not point to this being ping ponging up and down the same stretch. It that CCing? Not at all. Live on a boat, love it and work/school. Get a mooring to suit. FFS it's not hard to understand is it?

Yes Paul. Agreed. Disco works very well in your second example!

Nah! Best ever was my 90s 4.6v8. Disco auto. Hell of a tow car. But never tried something like this. I'd agree a tractor is best!
  16. Ha! Tell me about this. Turned up at my own home mooring to the same reception couple of weeks ago. Came down to threats of cut ropes and vandalism. If you forgive the expression 'possession is 9/10ths of the law'. I'm polite and not up for a scrap so move on....

  18. Thanks guys. Never had a multi fuel stove before. Sensible stuff. Tho think I still need new carpet now.
  19. I am following this one. Coals rolling out of Squirrel n burning the damn carpet. I need help too!
  20. I'm not so sure. I bought a boat because I've always loved the waterways, have hired and knew I wanted one. I'd also be happy to live on one but it wouldn't work just now for any number of reasons. Suspect many of the new young boaters are just looking for affordable accommodation and a floating flat. Maybe they will be converted by the experience and maybe not....
  21. Ouch. And I'm sure it's no consolation at all that my horn and tunnel light are broken, but the rest of the boat works ok
  22. I'm going to retreat back to Aylesbury. No way they can come after me. Swear that a narrowboat is a bit wide for some sections....
  23. Can't see why not. I've seen those too, at least its clear. But where it does not say that what are the rules? When you have had the 14 days how long before you're allowed to come back for another 14?
  24. Stop it with the sinking! All boats are about to sink (I'm sure I'm quoting from here). It's just a matter of how long it takes. You lot have me paranoid about drips from the stern gland, but still afloat after a few months on
