Why must it be a farmers field that you moor in? There are no CRT mooring in that area but I know of at least 3 recognised off towpath moorings on that stretch. There's: Altham marine, Clough Bank, or Knotts bridge, all would consider you for a spot and have services such as water and electric.
This one had me confused at first because it is very long, must be 75 feet. I wondered how it got through the 62 feet locks. It is joined in two pieces with a rubber seal so it can be moved. It's quite the impressive piece of engineering.
Sailed passed Altham today on the Leeds Liverpool canal. Very interesting boat in the moorings there, it's a floating dry dock that's being used to service boats, I think it's a great idea with the lack of maintenance facilities on this stretch of the canal. Got a quick look over the side and it's perfectly dry in the bottom, I stopped and snapped a few pics.
