  2. 5 year rule If a craft is entirely built (including the shell) by a DIY boatbuilder only for their personal use it is excluded from the RCR provided it is not placed on the market within 5 years of its first use as a boat. The boat does not have to be complete for the 5 year period to start, but does have to have been used as a boat (e.g. cruised on a waterway). The '5-year rule' does not apply to sailaway craft that have been completed by the first owner, as such craft have to be assessed under Post Construction Assessment by an Approved Body. https://www.abnb.co.uk/useful-information/faq-rcd#:~:text=If a craft is entirely, first use as a boat.
  3. Just to update this, new belt arrived today so I put that on. Wired it as suggested and all works well. Thanks again.
  4. Hi all, I was hoping someone would be able to identify the wiring connection on the back of my alternator. It's been on my engine for a few years, but never had a belt or wiring, so I'm going to see if I can get it going. There are no markings next to the 2 terminals with spade connectors on them. Would the blue arrow be the B+ , and the red arrow be the D+ ? There was a black wire connected to one of the mounting bolts that went back to battery negative. I have wired an alternator before but the terminals were all marked up, Any advise appreciated thanks.

  8. If it was still on that mooring in November 21 maybe it got moved with the others. https://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/113280-mersey-and-wye-ll-shortboats/

  10. Thanks Tony Your wiring instructions were spot on. Got it going. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks, you've given me something to work with. will have another look at it tomorrow.
  12. Hi all, I have an old starter motor and I'm struggling with the wiring. It's a cav CA45f12-35m , where do I connect wires to get it going ?. I have read some of sirnibbles previous posts but I can't find any wiring pics. Thanks I've circled the terminals.

  16. There is the floating dry dock at Altham.
  17. I bought a sabb 2j from Marine Enterprises, Dorset a couple of years ago. Sean there had 2 complete engines and 4 more stripped for parts. As part of the sale of the engine to me, he replaced the water pump diaphragm. So I think he would be worth a try. http://www.marineenterprisesltd.co.uk/
  18. Have you looked into solar panels? Other than that it would be a decent suitcase genny.
  19. I have a little parweld inverter welder. It's smaller than a toaster but will still run 3.2 rods easily. Rods are available on eBay, 20kg for around £45. That's a lot of welding. Remember with stick you pull towards you, not push away ;).
  20. I just had a check back in, looks like they have got the engine going.
  21. Needs some handrails on the cabin, and that back bit of cabin wants taking off and some gunnels adding. Wonder if that engine can be saved? Looks like a petter.
