@Tracy D'arth Between the spelling of 'Harbor' and mention of nautical charts etc., isn't that advice for Gloucester, Massachusetts?

It seems too vague to be helpful even for the right place to be honest.

(It feels like I'm missing a joke but not sure what -- something in Theo's deleted post?)

I reckion that TD'A asked Chat GPT and out it all spewed. 😁

Very few ebikes catch fire. Sometimes people fall in from boars and drown.

If your stupid enough to go riding around on wild pigs then you deserve all you get.  A mention in the Darwin awards.

I don't think the shunt i currently have is smart enough to connect to anything, though I will have a look.

The shunt of itself is not smart.  It's nobbut a low resistance  across which to measure a voltage.  But perhaps yours has some electronics attached to it?

October last year, high tide Sharpness 0918, I entered Gloucester Lock at 0830, left the bottom gates at 0847.

Outgoing tide plus quite a bit of fresh (last day of yellow boards) was quite fierce in the Partings and especially after joining the main flow at Maisemore at 0936 - I was going backwards at 1700rpm and nowhere at 2000.

Plugged very slowly up to Ashleworth where the tide caught me up (with a noticeable leading wave) at 1022, and after that quickly upstream, by Lark's standards anyway - Haw Bridge 1105, Upper Lode on the level at 1205 after a 10-minute pause at Lower Lode.

Wouldn't want to leave any closer to the tide than that, you need the option to turn around and return to Gloucester if you find a tree stuck across the Partings. That did happen to me on the way down, but fortunately the 70ft widebeam I was following ploughed straight through it!

Bear in mind the restriction on opening Llanthony Bridge between 0830 and 0900. Almost caught me out - you need to be on the right side of it beforehand if leaving that time.

Should be OK.  We will be leaving at 0815 (We're in Gloucester Dock) HW will be at 1405 and all the river levels up from Gloucester are at either Normal and Steady or Normal and Falling.

Thanks for all the useful advice as ever.

Maybe there is a clue in the OP which I missed.

    'Some random avian".

Is this assumption or does the OP actually know and wants people to guess.

    Is it a gull?

No.  I really don't know.  It was an assumption.  By the size of the scales I would guess that the fish was quite big, so a gull would be my first thought but there are hardly any gulls down here.  Surprisingly when you have loads of them up at Gloucester.

  6. When we emerged from the cabin this morning this is what we discovered. Some random avian had been using the cabin slide as a dining table.  The scales are quite big and the bones are the size of cod bones.  I wonder what was the predator and what was the prey.

We didn't remove the evidence immediately as we were all set to view the Purton Hulks but when we got back a couple of hours later the aroma was greater and the wasps were enjoying their share.  Plenty of fishy protien to feed their larvae.

Possibly, but if you stop a car, it doesn't drift sideways in the wind!

Surely, with all the experience a bridge operator has, they could very accurately estimate when to start opening the bridge, such that the green light coincides with the arrival of the boat.

    You would certainly think so!

  8. When we bought our original PartaPotti 365 back in 2007 we bought two holding tanks.  Originally we had the one with the pump action flush rather than the bellows type.

In 2018 the pump action finally refused to work (It was sticking and not amount of lubrication of any sort would work) so disliking the idea of a single tank with a Qube we bought a new 356 on Ebay with a bellows action flush.  This is the one that we now have, and because we kept the old holding tanks we now have three.  The bellows sprung a leak after not very long but we were able to buy a new spare.

    Try Ebay for a a 365

  9. Slightly off topic but related.

We've just moored at Sharpness (What a beautiful mooring it is!) overlooking the Severn (Which you can't see from the saloon but you can from the bank)  closely followed by a beautifully mintained Wilderness boat.  The couple from said Wilderness boat told us that the bridges are unmanned and therefore closed for navigation on Tuesdays.  We haven't read this anywhere.  Are they correct?  They said it had been confirmed by a bridgekeeper.
