As far as I know, Solar panels have a 20 (or) 25 years guarantee that they will still be producing 80% of the original.

I've never come across a 'total failure' except where it has been smashed by a brick (or similar)

Are you sure its not just bad wiring ?

I'd put money on them not honouring this if not fitted to a standard house?

  2. thats everyone for taking the time to reply. I shall investigate all...... assuming i can survive this, looking at the safety info on some of these!

  3. Hi All

With Summer coming I'll be sorting out the outside of the boat and painting. There are a few spots where its rusty/been rusty when the surface is uneven and if i prep/paint over it, it will be very noticeable - no big holes, just rough!   I'm looking to find the best light/thin filler i can use to take a way the slight rough area.... I have P38 and P40 from ages ago and wondered if these would be ok to use or if the team would recommend something more suitable?  thanks as ever!!!!!

I find the best deterent is to have a camera visibly directed at the yobos about to engage in such - good as you approach, but not so useful if they are on the side of the bridge where you exit.

indeed... when i see what i think might be unsavoury people that could do something i get my phone out and make it look like im recording them......

  5. All now berthed at Droitwich..... been an 'interesting' trip through two storms and **** loads of rain.... but yet i still seem to have caught the sun??!!  thanks for all the help from people!

note to self - avoid lock flights in strong winds.... :)

Well that was interesting. Coming through by the holiday Inn or premier Inn or whatever it is, the wind blows you 90 degrees across the canal towards the hotel, then just as you correct it an almighty bounce back off the building sends you straight across towards the moored boats. Fortunately the guy off the fudge boat warned us as we passed so we were ready for it. And getting around salvage turn into the white horses was tricky too.

Saw your boat as we entered the Marina today... hope your trip went well after the windy start!  :)

We came across her last year. She gave me a load of abuse for waiting above the next to bottom lock for a boat to come through, I was following the instruction that was stapled to the lock beam that said set 1 lock ahead or wait to avoid having to pass in the pound with a big shelf, this was the same advice the CRT bod had given us the last time. She started shouting that it was a load of rubbish and that they didn't know anything ! Clearly she hasn't mellowed!!

We saw you had managed to get tucked away in the corner yesterday, looked like a sheltered spot. We're moving down towards Alvechurch today, assuming we can get the boat off the bank in the gale...

ah we saw you go by this morning..... we walked around to see if the tap was still there and got blown over so decide we might wait a while... later today/tomorrow.... :)

I've met a few people from the forum who have introduced themselves, usually when passing through locks. The problem is that the noise level on the boat is much higher than on the towpath, even immediately adjacent to it, so people assume I can hear them but unfortunately I can't!

    Alec

in my defence this is so true of me as i have an inherited hearing loss (yes mum thanks for that!).. i cant hear much other than a beta 43...

we met the most frustrated woman vlokkie at Tyrley locks, who was shouting instructions to me whilst i was near the previous lock then moaning nobody listens to her as shes a woman... she told all this to my wife who could only just hear her stood across the same lock.... the future doesn't look good for her anger management!

The Body Brook and Salwarpe were fairly well up when we drove up to the boat today, Droitwich canal shut where it joins it and you'd not get through the M5 tunnel at the moment.

We're going out and turning left tomorrow heading for Brum direction and not sure where afterwards, forecast for the next few days is ok then going downhill from Monday.

    Might pass you inbound 👍

This is looking more like we'll be coming from Brum!  I'll keep an eye out!!

at least we'll have the Rivers to do in the better weather...

Thanks for the perspectives.  I hear great things about BCBM from folks on this forum.  I have little doubt that they are a great company and would be happy to do business with them.

I'll ask them a few questions about the boat and the way the syndicate runs their schedule.

Indeed we would probably not be able to take advantage of windfall openings in the schedule, nor be taking our winter week(s). Still, ~£2K a year upkeep for 3 weeks cruising seems like a decent deal for a boat equipped as we like.

If you can get over in the winter (maybe cheaper flights?) then most people tend to use those as 'cottage holidays' and dont cruise- somewhere cheap to stay to explore the local area!  Hope it all works out for you!!  which boat are you interested in?
