  1. Hey, So.. Yes I know that it's the age old question, to which everyone replies that it's boiling in winter.. But I was wondering if I could get some tips on keeping the boat warm as mine is freeezing. The problem is me and my girlfriend both work full time, we leave the stove on during the day but by the time we are back it has finished burning and the boat is already cold. I'm sure it was lovely and warm whilst we were out. We then get home and put the stove back on, go to sleep just as its warming up, wake up and it's cold again.. We do also have a webasto, although I don't like to leave that on as it surely drains the batteries.. But I run it every morning for hot water. I was wondering if you have any advice for a newbie? Ps.. It's lovely and warm when we spend an entire day in it. (Also we CC) Cheers!
  2. I had it on for several hours last night and it didnt seem to take too much power.. So yeah perhaps thats when its at full blast..
  3. I was aware it would probably use a fair bit of power, but It's worth it
  4. Thanks very much! This forum is so useful! Learn something everyday..
  5. Ok, thankyou. So is the only workaround switching to powersave off mode when I want to use the speaker?
  6. Thanks for the responses, the wierd thing is the light still turns on in powersave mode, but bluetooth only works with power saver off. So can I leave it in powersaver auto and that won't drain batteries when the mains are not in use?
  7. Hey, I've got a simple inverter question. I have just bought a cambridge audio bluetooth speaker. It is my only thing that requires 240v and hence the first time since buying my boat that I need to run something out of the mains. I have a steeling 2500w quasi sine wave inverter, all is working, i do get a buzz on the speaker which im hoping to fix with a power conditioner from richer sounds. My main qustion is what is the correct position for this switch. The bluetooth on the speaker only seems to work when it is down (set to power saver off) but the speaker appears to switch on when it's up. It would be great if somebody could explain what this switch does exactly as I've completely forgotten as I've not used it since buying the boat (where he briefly explained it) Please see photo of switch attatched
  8. I actualy have that same vent for mine thats in the article
  9. When im home I can take a picture off the roof for you 'WotEver'
  10. Yes I need to remember goggles? Anybody got an opinion on using a plant pot as a pipe to go between the roof and the cieling? Also shal i make the hole bigger than the cutout size? The vent asks for a 120mm cut out
  11. Thanks very much! Very useful, one last thought.. How do I know theres no cables where I drill, is it just an educated guess? Ie.. Not near any lights
  12. Would anyone be so kind as to recommend a particular jigsaw and blade from the screwfix website? I'm going to head to there store and buy everything all in one go. Will I still need to buy an expensive drill too? Yikes this is going to get pricey. But the tools will last a lifetime I suppose

I read some people have used plant pots. Drill holes for ring base for vent and screw ring base in from underside (do i need plywood under the steel?) Lay down a ring of sealant and then screw the vent into place. Attatch airhead pipe and fan to wooden cieling Cry that it hasn't worked and call a proffesional If I've missed anything i'd love to hear it, Thanks, James

  16. Thanks Spade foot, i'll grab a stop end today. Any tips for the roof? Other than getting if in the right place, going to a hardware store this afternoon to get all the equipment for the job, so if theres anything that will make it easier for me i'd love to hear it.. Thanks a lot, James

  18. But then would I have to block a pipe off to stop it running when I turn the water back on? Sorry i'm a complete novice with this sort of stuff..
  19. Thanks for the help, it's a c200 cs d3 (catchy name) Would that also be connected to a water pipe?
  20. Hi, I am currently about to remove a thetford casette toilet and replace with an airhead composting toilet. I've tried ringing various places nearby (currently moored near milton keynes) for a proffesional to come and do the job, but it seems everyone is booked for weeks! I think I may just attempt the job myself and was wondering if anybody could talk me through the process (or come round tomorrow to earn a days work) Any help would be greatly appreciated, such as what tools I need to drill through the roof and how i disconect the casette toilet from the water supply.. Thanks a lot, James
  21. Hi there, I am seeking some help in installing my newly purchased airhead composting loo, and removing our cassette toilet. I've been told it's simple in one ear and it's really complicated in the other ear. The main thing that worries me is installing the mushroom vent on the roof. Would anyone be so kind to recommend someone who could take care of the installation for me, the boat is currently in Northampton. Thanks a lot, James
  22. Morning all! So after much research into the big toilet debate I have decided to replace my casette toilet for an airhead composting loo. This is in my newly bought boat, my main reason for the change is to save water and keep my boat a bit on the green side. The website makes it sound like installation is easy, but I'm more than tempted to hire a proffesional to ensure it's fitted and working properly. Has anybody installed one themselves? (Mainly the hole in the roof which is scaring me) Any tips would be greatly appreciated,, Thanks, James
  23. Hey, Thanks for all your advice, I went to Whilton Marina Yesterday, I had planned to go to several different marinas throughout the day, but myself and my girlfriend found a lovely 70ft boat after viewing about 6 different options. It just felt right and I went for it! So were now proud owners of a lovely new narrowboat We should have it in our hands in 6-8 weeks, then let the adventure begin! Thanks a lot, Jim
  24. Cheers David, I'll make sure to pop into Braunston Marina too, In terms of negotiation, am I likely to be able to bag a 40k boat for 35k, or do sellers only tend to give minor reductions in price. Also, does anyone here have recommendations for surveyors in Northampton area? It would be great to go with a recommendation rather than a random company from the broker's list. Thanks a lot for all the help, Jim
