  1. Not canal related, but also nearby is a combined road bridge and aqueduct that, rather unusually, carries a river over the railway line. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Long_Ashton,_aqueduct_over_railway_-_geograph.org.uk_-_291293.jpg
  2. When I spoke to them a couple of years ago they didn't mention an exchange. Instead they said to send it to them (near Southampton) and they would do a bench test for a small fee and advise what was needed and the cost. Things may have changed now though, and also, that was for an air heater.
  3. I guess there are a few things you could try. Instructions say there's a red reset button on the pcb. Ok, it's for overhest scenario but must be worth a try. Unplug and re-seat the multi connectors while you're at it. Try it with the batteries on charge to see if it works with the higher voltage. If you're comfortable dismantling further, check the jet isn't blocked and that the thermocouple is in the right place and not damaged.
  4. I have a Malaga 4 in my motorhome and it sometimes does this. So far it has always worked by following the 'clearing lockouts' instructions whereby you switch it off and back on at the switch within a couple of seconds. I've had to do it many times on occasions. I have a Propex air heater as well. This has a similar problem but will not clear itself. However, I've found it will work if I blast the pcb with compressed air for a few minutes so I assume it's a pcb fault. When I phoned Propex they were very helpful but ultimately suggested that I send the unit to them. The likely price they estimated seemed very reasonable.
  5. I've also heard of people printing or writing labels and sealing them onto the cable ends with clear heat shrink.
  6. If you're redoing the pipework all on one side you might as well take the opportunity to make it a two pipe system. How much distance is there between the Alde and the proposed Webasto? I'm thinking, if it's not too far you can run 22mm pipes from the Webasto to the Alde legs and fit isolators to each. That will overcome the balancing problems.
  7. I take it that you mean, why would anyone argue for standard red and black? Well nobody seems to be arguing against standardised colours in mains electrical supplies which can be at least as difficult to trace.
  8. I guess it's quite common. Cable is cheaper in 100m rolls so it's tempting to use the same colours for various runs. Some might argue that 12v circuits should all be in a standard red and black.
  9. When I visited there about 30 years ago the locals called it Pont. They called the canal The Llang and the town Llang, which they pronounced clan as opposed to my efforts of cthlangocthlan, with which they were, of course, mightily impressed.
  10. Ok. That's a one pipe system then. Pretty inefficient but might be alright with so few radiators. If the flow and return pipes are as close as your diagram suggests, and accessible, it might be worth considering changing to a two pipe system. But someone may be along shortly to say it's not worth the effort.
  11. Instead of using plastic 'angle iron', why not use square steel bar, stick it on with Stixall and paint it? I think that would be far more solid. If you don't want to paint it you could use aluminium. Enough metal to go across the gunwales will cost about a fiver on ebay.
  12. Strictly, an aqueduct is a watercourse constructed to convey water, which can include ditch, bridge, tunnel, pipe etc. In that sense, the whole of the Llangollen Canal might be considered an aqueduct as to conveys water from the Horseshoe Falls to the Shopshire Union and Hurleston Reservoir. When I visited the Pont Du Gard aqueduct in France, it was explained that the Romans considered the entire watercourse an aqueduct, not just the bridge. Our definition of aqueduct tends to mean any bridge carrying a watercourse regardless of the number of spans. It would perhaps make sense to define multi-span aqueducts as a specific type of viaduct but it seems the word viaduct was only derived from aqueduct around the time of the building of the railways.

  16. Almost all kitchen units are made from chipboard. The majority of doors are made from mdf or chipboard; even the doors that Howdens have the cheek to call Greenwich Natural Oak are melamine-faced chipboard.
  17. Sounds like that might be Ikea. They went their own way on kitchens a few years ago and only supplied them in 200mm increments. So 400/600/800mm etc. Utterly stupid decision in my opinion.
  18. There's also Benchmarx: https://www.benchmarxkitchens.co.uk/ And DIY Kitchens online, who seem to have very good reviews. They do a few with natural wood finish, which is quite rare these days: https://www.diy-kitchens.com/
  19. Howdens list price should not be taken seriously. No one's mentioned Wren yet. According to their website, Howdens average trade discount is 76 percent, and they claim to be 21 percent cheaper than that discounted price. I've never used them so I don't know what they are like regarding supply only but it would be a bit unscrupulous to advertise comparisons to a supply only company if you only sold fully fitted kitchens. https://www.wrenkitchens.com/
  20. Technically it's the River Avon rather than the K&A. The waters are CRT controlled but it looks like the bank must be controlled by Saltford parish council or BANES council. There's no towpath as such but a public footpath follows the river closely from Bristol to Bath. At Saltford the path is routed along the roads of Mead Lane and The Shallows then passes between the river and the marina, crossing the marina entrance via a footbridge. CRT regularly patrol the area including visiting boatyards and private moorings. There are plenty of unlicensed boats in the area as well as overstayers. My neighbour, who works for CRT, tells me that it costs £8000 to remove a boat, so it's understandable that they are reluctant to do so, but it does happen. Upstream of the marina, where the footpath looks somewhat like a towpath, an angling club has the rights and they enforce them quite forcefully.
  21. Yep. This is what they quote: The daily consumption of a standard system, designed for two people, is about 17Ah (12V) Ventilation pump: 600 mA, depending on time 50%, 12 hx 0.6 A = 7.2 Ah Pumping: 24 x daily 1 min A 10 A = 8 Ah Pumping: 6 x daily 2 min A 10 A = 2 Ah TOTAL: 17 Ah - This can easily be generated by a solar panel or wind turbine directly into the vessel’s battery bank.
