  1. My base floor is marine ply so are you all saying I don't need to seal it then?
  2. Hi all, I have a question to which I keep getting differing opinions on. I am about to start laying my final flooring onto my plywood Base floor. Lino in bathroom, carpet in bedroom and some sort of laminate in galley and lounge areas. The thing is do i need to seal the plywood base floor or not. Thanks George.
  3. Thanks Tim, I have noticed the washers on the spinners looks like I'll be taking them off then. I've got the single door option so my ash door is my fire door also.
  4. Thanks Bizzard, that's good then. This one just rests on two lugs so just had to spin it quarter turn and it drops down
  5. Hi all, I've just installed my morso squirrel stove and the morso boat flue kit. In the instructions it says "NOTE: The smoke hood must not be fitted if the flue is less than 4.5M" with a line drawing of the inside of the stove and just under the top outlet there is a triangular shape marked smoke hood. I have removed what I think it is - a quarter bowl shaped piece of steel Can anyone tell me if this is indeed the "Smoke Hood"
  6. That's the thing I don't know if it will be safe that way around, will it still draw properly
  7. Hi all. I have bought a widebeam sailaway. It has an insulated flue outlet fitted to the roof which I think will be a problem as the inner pipe is only 4" dia (100mm). All of the stoves I have looked at have a flue outlet of 5" (125mm) or 6" (150mm) dia. Can I put a reducer in place to fit to the roof outlet. From what I have read I can only find mentions of increasing dia from stove to flue not decreasing like I need to do. Hope this makes sense Any advice would be gratefully received.
  8. Thanks all, looks like vhf i still in use and not the mobile and the consensus is to have a vhf radio and complete the training. so looks like that is what I will be doing Thanks again for all your help and the links. George.
  9. Hi all, I currently have a widebeam in build. When it's finished (in April/May) I will obviously be cruising mainly rivers especially around the Trent. Do you still need vhf radio to contact the lockies for ease of passage or do they now use mobiles. Either way how do I know what channel they are on or what are their mobile numbers. Thanks George.
  10. Thanks both, I think it might be simpler to just go with a diesel heater as it seems to be the most common way of heating and probably safer as well.
  11. I am buying a new sailaway and am looking at my water heating options. On my old boat that I used to own it had an old type of gas boiler to heat the water which is quite common on older boats. I remember hearing somewhere that "new boats" won't pass the bsc inspection if they have a gas water heater fitted. (dont even know if new gas heaters exist) Indeed I have yet to see a new boat with one fitted and I have looked at a few. Are diesel water heaters man enough to cope with a liveaboard (constant use) during a British winter. George.
