  1. You mentioned 'Jones' there ain't no 'J' in the Welsh alphabet.... just sayin' It's going to get very strange when/if the Welsh Assembly vote to ban the anglicisation of Welsh names.
  2. Not on your nelly ? I've cancelled. But ... Castle Marine could become a gamechanger for future mooring prices; somehow acquiring a portfolio of marinas has to be paid for. When prices go up, they very rarely come down.
  3. No offense taken ? Just trying to understand, and of course being suspicious (of pricing). We've used Castle Marine many times, especially Wigrams and don't have a grumble with their operations. We've found they've great friendly staff. The thought has popped into my head too that they don't want 'casual' moorers, so why not say so? ABC I understand run many marinas, and their prices look to be in line (ish). We're at that 'anno domini' stage in life, and ill health is making 'wild mooring' a bit 'dangerous' - hence the 'marina hopping'. I've got itchy feet ?
  4. Works out, £4.50 per ft x 57ft = £256 inc VAT at Kings Orchard Mancetter: £214 inc VAT Dunchurch Pools: £236 inc VAT IMO prices never appear to go down, so are prices set for a big hike, pushed along by a 'big player'?
  5. (Don't Farndon do narrowboats?) So on my reckoning; a 57ft (narrowboat) boat = 17.4m £27 per metre = £469.80 Less 5% £23.49 = £446.31 VAT included?
  6. This I think is the worry, the Group who owns the marina has bought two marinas lately, one on the Sth Oxford, and Trinity on the Ashby - Castle Marine. The marina's cost above is Wigrams - a really nice marina, but.... We're paying half this in the new Mancetter Marina this month, and we're booked to go into Dunchurch Pools next month, also for half the costs. I'm just trying to get my head around it.....
  7. I'm interested to know what boaters think about costs of mooring fees for 32 nights? Need to get to grips with costs..... thanks Edited to say; this marina is in the Midlands.
  8. My kid brother has just confessed about the time when he was 16 working on a campsite. The campers that were rude or grumpy would have bits of bread thrown on top of their caravans for the seagulls to clatter about, waking the 'unhappy campers' at 5 in the morning. There must be some rich boaters about, has anyone priced a cassette lately? There're over £100!
  9. We bought some cheaper ones from Wilkes, and they didn't last 2 years before they tarnished really badly, for whatever reason. In this instance I'm sure I got what I paid for ? They are now replaced with normal curtain track, hiding the track with a pelmet - having the pelmet has cut down drafts quite a bit.
  10. Had no idea about the Chorleywood canal..... and I lived in Loudwater for 15 years ? https://my.viewranger.com/route/details/MjgzODYwNw==
  11. Bother! Just bought a giant pack of loo rolls just in case the rumour mill were correct ?? Really pleased it's over!

  15. Turns out ships and cars in Egypt can only drive when the horn is honking. Just in... fingers crossed ?

  17. Great pics, thank you ? I remember he was moored for a while by a ramp. There's a bridge nearby, we walked over the bridge to get to quarrymen's cottages, where we were staying, the cottages had been converted to holiday lets. Perfect ?
  18. Was surprised (saddened) to see on Rightmove last night the Halfway House being refurbed into apartments. Used to love that pub! We lost 'our Barry' about 5 years ago, far too soon, the love of his life was a steel hull ketch, might be in the marina 'Sea Waif'? Our boat ticked all the boxes for us when we bought it, so the age bit didn't really matter, it's just confused us.
  19. Thanks Alan. 'Y Felinheli? Between Caernarfon and Bangor? My brother had a ketch in that port a few years ago.
  20. Thanks.... I agree. I've never come across this situation. I know it was sold to us as a 6 year old boat in 2016 by a broker. Want to do what's right!
  21. Sorry if this is a dumb question ? We're at the point where we're 'thinking' of selling our boat in a few months time. We're the second owner. The previous owner bought the boat as a Liverpool Boat sale-away in 2006 (think ?), he took his time fitting it, (out of water), it was 'commissioned' (that's the term we were given) or should it be 'officially registered' with CRT Feb 2010. So if you were selling our boat, what age would you advertise it? Thanks for your views ?
  22. Horrendous; there're live animals onboard 20 livestock ships in the queue. I don't think there's any excuse to transport live animals around, unless of course it's for breeding or racing purposes. Presuming the animals are for food, it would be better if they were slaughtered before they start their journey, keeping carcases in cold storage.
  23. Great idea.... then afterwards the area could be turned into a health spa! I call that a win/win!
