  1. Hi Gareth I am new to all this so please pardon my ignorance, CO poisoning I am very conscious of but I don't know how I would blow up as that would be a very poor demise I feel
  2. Great thread, thanks This will be my first winter too but I do think that I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to the cold - it does mean that I layer up well lol I do have a multi-fuel stove (had my first light of it last night, thanks again John ) but I've also brought my cabinet heater from my flat which is for getting dressed in front of on a chilly morning so am guessing I'll be plenty warm so am looking forward to opening my windows but will probably keep my onesie on!!!
  3. Hello she would have called out cheerily or a good hearted nod if indoors
  4. Still not managed to have training yet, had a few goes on our trip down which we did over 3 days, was only about 8hrs but it was great, we had some nice food (thanks Mum) and just enjoyed it all We hit our first locks at Stoke Bruerne but Dad shouted out to a boater going past if we could go through with them, lovely couple - thanks Matt & Jill We've moved the boat once, again Mum & Dad came over but they have visited me more since being a boater so don't think they mind, they're bringing other family with them next time and I think I might have to stay at theirs when they want to take her on holiday!!! Before I know it, I'll be back on dry land and visiting them on my boat
  5. Well that's me told (but I'm pretty new to this so every days a school day )
  6. Thanks for asking this question Jetboy, good old elbow grease and determination from me it is then I also picked up my Vactan today too, come on weekend, I've got some jobs to start.....
  7. Hi Slimmyman and welcome I purchased the last NB I went on when I visited my first marina and was only 'bobbing out for a look', my parents and the dog came as well, nice little day out and all that My price bracket was 25k and before going my mate did say that I'd be lucky to find anything that wouldn't need work at that price and although I can change plugs, light bulbs, fitted some tiles in the bathroom (still on 15yrs later), I don't have the know how or tools to fit out a boat We passed a boat that was 5k over my budget but we all really liked it - dog included It was full of canal boat plate pictures and kingfishers but it had every single item I could need for living afloat! There was no movement on the price, they said that boats are selling at the asking price and it's a sellers market as many people are wanting get to live on the canals but after the survey (another vote for Craig Allen) they fixed all the things I would have asked to have fixed and even fitted a new shower for me so I was and still am cock-a-hoop I may have rushed in, I probably could have got a better boat for the money if I'd have shopped around but I am impulsive and I bloody love this boat of mine Good luck with it all, see you around ?
  8. It's only been a few weeks for me now and it's just the best I know it's no time at all and I have said to all to ask me again when it's cold lol but am loving it My almost sunset It's only been a few weeks for me now and it's just the best I know it's no time at all and I have said to all to ask me again when it's cold lol but am loving it So great if posted it twice lol
  9. A narrow escape me thinks! Run, run fast, keep going and don't look back Ignore his insulting emails and count your lucky stars that you didn't get lumbered! It is buyer beware and you have no come back with a private seller unfortunately so at least if you buy from a marina, you do have somewhere to go if it all turns to cr*p Good luck and happy boat hunting
  10. I left the picture upside down to make it as 'abstract' as possible haha They are in actual fact............ .......wait for it........... ............ Hideous candles in the guise of some blue elephants and a hippo apparently all dressed in their finery There were about 40 plates with pictures of canal boats on them too - I was taking them down as we were making our way back home
  11. Welcome all newbies - I too am a newbie and I did rush in to buy my boat, didn't look around that much bar online, went £5000 over my original budget and feel that I could have got a better boat for the money if I'd shopped around more but I fell in love and have always been impulsive but I had done some research prior, been here two weeks, not exactly looking forward to moving on as it's idyllic where I'm at but guessing next stop will be just as beautiful and know it was the best decision ever But I do keep saying "ask me again in winter"
  12. Well done MrB ☺ when I picked my boat up (all of 2 weeks ago, so a hardened pro now ), we had to go through Blisworth, had my dad at the tiller - he has more experience than me, my mum in front with a light, all lights on and windows open and a brolly at the ready to stop me and dad from getting a soaking in the tunnel (thanks to all with info on where to avoid ☺) ☺ We passed a couple of boats and my dad kept well away from them by scraping my boat up the wall he is a fit and healthy 75 but is a bit on the deaf side so unfortunately, all he could almost hear was me shouting "Dad, stop scraping my effing and jeffing boat on the effing and jeffing wall!!!" Followed by dad saying "sorry, what did you say love?" Mum made him a lovely coffee with brandy in it and it sounded much worse in the tunnel than any damage I could actually see so turned out nice again after all
  13. Alright cheeky boys! lol From the look and feel of them, Ray T, think you've hit the nail on the head It looks like the old surround for my fire, tiles look really new Just didn't want to throw something away that was integral!!! ☺ I've got a pair of size 10 boots that are 7 sizes too big for me - yours for the asking Now, does anybody know how to play shove h'apenny..... Thanks everyone, mystery solved, dam those pesky kids...... Now, where did I put that book on photography.......
