  1. I am using Thermall Reflective Radiator Insulation from B&Q £5 per 5m roll
  2. Get ready for the "New to Boaters" forum getting hammered with the 20 something's having the same idea as they've seen this programme and asking stupid questions. Thanks George Clarke. Makes me laugh as he keeps going on about Geordie's and he's in fact a "Mak'em" Oi watch it i come from Brum originally thick i am NOT tattos i have NONE an idiot well the wife would probably agree with that one
  3. I also thought that was perspex going in the first window with no openers
  4. Did you notice before the restoration George was calling it a barge and when finished was a Narrowboat!
  5. I was looking forward to this but again its another see it in a right state and then hey presto its all finished what happened to the work in between??? and how i did it and he spent £20k-25k restoring it how
  6. Jonnylee i am doing exactly the same as you after buying a 40footer in November after selling my 32footer that i had just refitted myselfi am definitely NOT a carpenter but will have a go at anything i also considered fitting central heating on board but decided the logburner is sufficient to heat the boat but will be fitting a radiatior off the engine cooling system. I have just bought a Morco water heater so i have instant hot water in the taps and for the shower and always have the calorifier for hot water when engine is running there is definitely more work than i imagined but will be work it it hope !! good luck with your boat i will be watching your progress here is a picture of my rebuild at the moment
  7. Hi, Can someone please tell me what gearbox this is i am told it might be a PRM Delta 140 or 160? any advice very much appreciated
  8. A picture of the leaky windows are these notorious leakers the interior picture is the worst offender
  9. Yes it does and Mike i do so happen to have the same meter lol ;-)
  10. Lol ok you got me there AMPS it is then
  11. They seem pretty well charged up the ampmeter does jump up to 14volts when the engine fires up though
  12. Hi Rob, Sorry to hear of your problems my boat is also fitted with a BMC 1500 and the alternator belt screams like buggery when it is started from cold i have tried several times to stop this but no amount of tightening/tensioning works i would therefore presume this problem is down the to crappy belt which is new but inferior i suspect!! As for your other problems i have no doubt you will sort them yourself after all how long you been working on P6's/Sd1's/Lotus/Lanchesters/etc etc anyway good luck mate ;-)
  13. Hi Tim, Decided not to use Tolley's as its probably going to cause more grief trying to remove the stuff when i do re-seal the windows but thanks again for the offer
  14. Hi Tim, That would be great thank you i am moored in Fazeley where abouts are you?
  15. Thanks for all the replies i will fix temporarily with some duck tape or similar until the better weather then the task to remove the windows will begin don't you just love this boatings
  16. Thanks for that i have recently removed the solar panel there is a hole where the chimney was which is where i intend to re-site the stove in its original place the rust is from where the previous owner left the rusting metal bare which i have now treated with rust stabiliser and temporarily covered from the elements
  17. Dor here are the windows Sea Dog there is some roof flashing on the boat which makes me suspect he was going to use it on the windows as there is a thin strip already stuck on one
  18. Thanks both for the replies i know its a case of re-sealing them but there are eight windows on my boat and its a job that i could do without at the moment as i am in the middle of refitting the boat as previous the receipts say the windows were sealed so i thought its one thing off my mind but not to be obviously I also think the windows are of a crap design as they seem to be jointed at the corners all the screws are showing in the channel is there supposed to be a plastic/rubber bead that covers them?
  19. Hi All, As you can see my boat is not fitted with roof gutters so when it rains the water runs directly down the windows which leak very badly there were supposed to have been sealed before i purchased her which i have receipts for i know the windows need to be re-sealed again But i was thinking of fitting rain deflectors or roof gutter rails the latter obviously being much more labour intensive but more in keeping with a Narrowboat so what do we all think Deflectors or Roof gutter rails?? any help or suggestions very much appreciated
  20. My boat also took on a lot of water through the leaky windows which were supposed to be sealed before i bought her my boat has no roof gutters so rain/snow drip straight down the windows a real pain yours does sound like a leak from beneath though i suggest wet vaccing every drop up and seek where the leak is coming from sorry i can be no more help but i do sympathise
