  1. Ah but! If you are a continuous cruiser then you will most likely get them online. Regards Pete
  2. We use our sons address as our home address and use that address on our driving licences. As far as utility bills are concerned, the car hire companies often ask for them. I always explain that I live on a boat and so don't have them but I do have a receipt from BW for my licence fee. It has always been accepted. Regards Pete
  3. Used it yesterday to get a bus into Rugby. Just as well, as otherwise I would have been waiting on the wrong side of the road. Regards Pete
  4. The half empty water tank shouldn't have been a problem. There are taps at both ends and on both occasions we've been through the lockies have advised us to fill up. The first time we went through we booked a month in advance, the second time was about a week before - just before we left Manchester. Regards Pete
  5. The only time we used it we came straight out of the lock and down river. And that was when Salters Lode was having problems so we went through that lock on the level so tide was already well on the way out. Regards Pete
  6. I filled both tanks at Reedley Marina on the L & L last year and despite telling him in advance that one tank was for a generator and thus 'duty free' when I came to pay he insisted that HMRC at told him that only residential boats could claim this. After a lot of argument we combined the 2 totals and I paid at 20/80. As the gennie tank had used a lot more I guess I was the winner. Regards Pete
  7. We filled with diesel there last summer as I've got a second tank for the generator I asked for it to be at 0% with no problem. Regards Pete

    Sobriety....

Are they not moored between the two signs restricting mooring to fuel tankers only? Regards Pete
  9. But if you are longer than about 40ft you have to reverse out. There are also visitor moorings at the end of the canal just before Isis Lock. Also on the river between Osney Bridge and Lock. And on the river below Folly Bridge. Regards Pete
  10. They also fitted one in 'Joanie M'. Just what we wanted, no fuss, they came to our mooring and fitted it. I saw another boat at SActon Bridge on the Weaver who had fitted one himself with no problem. Regards Pete

  13. This is only during working hours, according to the website. They state that 0800 47 999 47 is the 24 hour emergency number. Regards Pete
  14. Thats the pontoons on the 'downstream' side. I think its always been like this. There was a bit in WW saying how these moorings had been provided including a photo with the No Mooring sign prominent. When I complained I was told those moorings were for commercial boats and for open days. Something about nobody been around to open the fence on other days and it being a BW stipulation. The visitor mooring - singular - is upstream of the mill buildings. Unfortunately it is just round the bend so you're almost past it by the time you realise it is there. I wonder how many extra visitors they would get if it was easier to stop. A great pity as they look like good overnight moorings with elec hookup. Regards Pete
  15. I've never understood why they are not free from mobiles. After all, with 0800 the cost is passed back to the recipient number. Instead of OfCom reducing the cost of mobile calls to and from abroad, perhaps they should look into this. Regards Pete
  16. I've managed to get the gunwhale caught under a floating pontoon and taken a length of the sanded paint out of the gunwhales. About 15mm wide and 1.5 mtr long. Is it just a case of painting over the gouged bit, sprinkling kilned dry sand over it, letting it dry before brushing off the excess then painting over it again? That sounds too easy. Regards Pete
  17. Moorings on the New Junction at the Goole end are nice and rural. Official visitor moorings by the lift bridge can be a bit noisy because of the dogs at the house. Tescos 5 mins walk from Doncaster moorings. There is a Sanitary Station at Swinton Lock but you need a very, very long hose! Lots of boats moor between the two Mexborough Locks. Some guide books say there is water ast both these but I've never found it. Water at Sprotborough is in the lock but at normal water levels is quite far above you. Tanker still runs to Rotherham. Regards Pete
  18. Some of them listed here: http://diesel.fibrefactory.co.uk/ Often think NBW or CWDF should have a continuously updated list. There are so many water taps/elsans/pumpouts that have been out of action for months that a it makes a mockery of all the guide books. Regards Pete
  19. We've also stayed at the top of the 9 with no problems but there are now visitor moorings in the new marina at the bottom of the Ashton flight. Never been keen on mooring in the Portland Basin area but Droylsden Marina at the top of Ashton Locks is good. Large Tesco just across road or there is a huge ASDA just before you get to Sportcity. There is a S/Stn just beyond Lock 92. Look for the trip boat mooring. On the Bridgewater you can moor at Sale on the non towpath side if room. Otherwise, there is a lovely offside mooring just past Dunham Woodhouse Overbridge 26B. After that it is Llym and then Moore. On the T & M there are nice moorings either side of the first 90 degree bend after Preston Brook Tunnel. You can sit and watch the hire boats plough into the bank. Regards Pete
  20. I got rid of my Vetus because of poor waveform which meant poor performance from washing machine and because it kept breaking down. Once it was out of ewarranty Vetus didn't want to know. I now have a Onan which gives no problems. Regards Pete
  21. All the ones I seen in Homebase, etc seem to be 1850mm high so won't fit. Also it needs to have easily removable doors so we can clean it. The one we have at present is 1800 mm high but impossible to clean behind the doors and the runners without completely dismantling, and I mean completely! Regards Pete
