  1. The canal can't have been used much as it must have been a faff to break the tail and allow the bridge to pivot?
  2. I seem to remember Baddiley Top Lock used to have one from childhood memory many moons ago circa 61/62
  3. I recall an article in W,W, concerning Alan Picken and an illustration or picture? of this scene was used
  4. Warrington Black Bear ?
  5. The identity should be in he Northwitch Health Register. I beleive the Admiral Class were registered in the 100's So I would suggest that this motor was re registered at Northwitch on joining British Waterways N.W fleet probably after a docking at Hayhurst Yard.
  6. Lion was Malcolm Braine's boat in 1962 when i first saw it . 45 ft in length. I beleive it was lengthened in two stages. I think WW did a feature with John Saxon when he owned the boat.
  7. Are there any height restrictions to consider?
  8. Thus we go back round to Thurlwood Steel Lock. Fails under same lock site site ruling? Good spot though. I cant put a date on the work
  9. The good people of Wolverhampton have cut down on their Flushes then?
  10. One of the Locks on the Upper Avon Robert Aickman? was built new and not on a previous lock site
  11. His middle button on his jacket is undone>
  12. First ethical question , do you have other crew members? Is the cabin suitable for one to one sessions to allow a confidential environment. If you are considering on-line counselling , I would recommend doing further training to equip yourself with the different aspects you do not require for face to face counselling such as secure email for contracting. Secure software (Zoom is not 100% secure). Procedures for reconnecting if a session is interrupted, insurance, payment methods etc. Given a good wifi signal this should allow you to cruise and deal with clients. As you mentioned I would start this off with discussing this at Supervision
  13. The pub at the top of Wolverhampton (Forgotten its name) long since demolished . Had a lock in with Chocolate Charlie , when some of the the Anderton fleet was tied there. It had a lovely bay window with a view of the top lock.
  14. Amaryliss was built by Taylor's of Chester and as far as I know was a private boat and never served in a hire fleet
  15. In the sixties we carried our own Keb and cleared minor things ourselves .
  16. Must be taken off the duck because it worked for me yesterday
  17. I think it was about 1979, I beleive taken by Laurence Hogg as he took detailed pictures of the boats in the left corner that went up for tender at about that time one of which was President .
  18. Water taps were were usually found at locks for working boatmen to obtain a source of potable water for their cans as they passed through the lock. The growth of leisure boating meant that water points were set up away from locks to allow uninterrupted passage. I do not know whether this provision was a legal requirement for public health laid upon the canal companies devolving down to C&RT.
  19. Fulbourne on the Grand Canal ? That would be a sight? Is the mooring OK for size?
  20. I thought it was Cammel Laird Birkenhead apprentices that built the charity boats, They definitely built the Heulwen for the Montgomery.
  21. Lovely footage thank you for posting. Frank Muir's boat Samanda was bought by Desmond Briscoe by 1965. Desmond also worked for the BBC and was active in the IWA at that time. He produced and arranged the Narrow Boats L.P. featuring sound bites of boatmen and canal workers etc. Combined with songs by David Blagrove.
  22. No located between the M4 and Cwmbran . Towpath is busy with cyclists and walkers. A lot of infilled built over sections to be overcome before it becomes connected to the North
  23. I remember coming down the Ouse from Naburn to Ocean Lock Goole after the 1975 rally at York. Those Thorneycrofts pushed them well on the river :
  24. Semi diesels in Thames Locks, John Liley reported a similar experience in ' Journeys of the Swan' starting the Gardner. In the 60's and 70.s they got a bit more used to them and used to ask hand or electric start? At a lock on the lower end when asked we turned our diesel off as we were eclectic start. The keeper then went talking to the crew of a large white twin engined cruiser. They didn't turn their engines of as I could see their wet exhaust working all the time.. As we left I challenged the Lockie asking if it was our black sides saying I bet that boat had twin bolinders. Happy Days .
