  1. Thanks, I'll check them out. Also thanks for everyone else's note. I'm on dry land at the moment, but I'll look at the alternators for model numbers (one is mounted in such a way that I can't read it without a mirror or getting very greasy!). The engine is a fairly new Thorneycroft, but the alts could be from the old engine... maybe. I read a voltage of 17v across the battery when the engine was running, so that may have something to do with the dying batteries. I should probably double check that.
  2. Also, I can place two 6V batteries in series and the chargers won't care, right? It's the same amount of cells as a 12V.
  3. At the moment I just have a twin alternator setup to keep the starter and domestic batteries charged. I'm adding some solars and have also seen the Sterling alternator to battery charger recommended. The current batteries where in the boat when I got her and I don't think they're in a particularly good shape (running the engine for 5 hours as I cruised, only to drop below 12v by morning with nothing on overnight). I want to make sure this setup is correct (plus fuses, breakers, and sensors that I omitted here because reasons) before I wire it all up and risk damaging the equipment and/or new batteries. So in my new wiring set up I hope to have the two alternators connect through the alternator>battery charger to the relative banks via the chargers two outputs. The solars will charge just the domestic bank (I may add a split charge relay, but the starter seems to keep charge better). The 230v inverter and 12v distribution will then come off the domestic batteries, with all negatives tied together. I've been trying to find a simple schematic, but all the ones I've been able to find have every possible wire on for all the sensors and what not. Any advice appreciated.
  4. River Lee Navigation From: Aqueduct Lock 8 To: Aqueduct Lock 8 Reason: Leaking lower lock gate Tried to get thought lock 8 on the Lee but the lower gate was leaking so bad that the chamber wouldn't fill all the way. One of the timber inserts to the bottom lock gate mitres came off. I've told CRT, but I hope they fix it quickly so I'm not stuck in the middle of nowhere.
  5. Hello, my first post here! I've just bought my first nb (43' trad), but she's moored on the Leeds and Liverpool in Burscough, Lancashire. I was planning on spending a month or so cruising down to Lee Navigation in Hertfordshire, but stoppages mean I can't even get to Manchester until March! Does anyone know somewhere near Burscough where I can get lifted out and/or a trucking company to haul it down. I've given Tuckey's a call, but they just recommended a marina who charged ~£660 +VAT for cranage out one way! As for the Hertford end, my friend has recommended Stanstead Abbotts where she's had her boat out before. Any recommendations would be great, and all advice greatly appreciated
