  2. They look identical; there is a Yanmar label on the cheapo one. If you look along the other suggestions on ebay, there is one for £8:50. If the old one works when you tap it, sounds like it is jammed. Do you have a fliter before it?
  3. I'd change the rope smartish. If it is the same rope I used for fenders, it will degrade in sunlight and become like paper.
  4. The Emperors New Clothes, if you can catch it open.
  5. It's only just over a year since the bridge was rebuilt. For at least 3 months, security guards were employed to protect the batteries from the temporary traffic lights after the first 2 sets were stolen.
  6. I did specify just the one stretch of Selly Oak where the canal narrows below the bridges, and it was some years ago. We often stop for shopping near the supermarkets.
  7. On the last couple of occasions I've used the Grand Union from Camp Hill through to Acocks Green I've felt uneasy, and that's on a boat!. There is little access off the towpath and there is little development around the canal. There is some history of the area through Small Heath. It's disappointing to see this as it was our adventure playground as kids, digging up the old landfill from Birmingham Refuse Dept, and bullets from the disused rifle ranges of the B.S.A. Another place where I was always careful was at Sekky Oak on the Worcs -Bham where the canal passed under the road and railway line and was reduced to 7ft for about 100yds (at least it seemed that long. ) There was evidence of glue sniffers and other drug use but I only ever saw one individual and he was so out of it that I doubt he saw me.
  8. Nowhere in Tipton is far from the pub!
  9. This is Puppy Green Aqueduct, Park Lane East, Tipton. I used to travel under this on the way to and from work in the 70's. I would often encounter a scrap/rag&bone man with a horse drawn cart, who, after an afternoon in the pub would travel at a fair pace down Park Lane East towards this shouting to his horse "under you bu**ar, not over". Tipton, like most of the Black Country, had more than its fair share of characters.
  10. Those bricks aren't ballast, they're stepping stones so you don't need to get your feet wet if you need to get into the bilge. DAMHIK.😉
  11. Quite some tears ago, I was one of several boaters renting a mooring on what was assumed to be private land, and it was only found out when one of the other moorers went to the BWB office to pay their licence and they were told they were moored on BWB land that was not an authorised mooring. The assumed owners who already had a lease for adjacent moorings, were given the option by BWB of developing a complete length of mooring and leasing it, or giving it up and being sued for the 'illegal' use. BWB could not take it on as the only access and parking was through the owners land. That site was developed and became a good investment to the owners and is still a sought after location. The last thing I thought was someone owes me money. I was more interesred in retaining the facility I had had and was more than happy with.
  12. The only correspondence I've ever received from CaRT about my mooring status was to ask where my boat was as it was not on its usual mooring. The checker had walked past it at a boatyard 15 minutes away.
  13. The spec of your hose is superior to the BSS spec, but no one takes any notice of it. For my last replacement, I had to pass countless hose suppliers to go to a chandlers 30 miles away.
  14. If the boat is subject to RCD, then an instantaneous heater would need to be room sealed. If an older boat that has not had one fitted before, you may get resistance when next BSS is due if you fit a Morco, or equivalent.
  15. I can't think of anyone like tha!!!!!😆

  17. The spirit is willing but the enforcement will no doubt continue to be weak.
  18. My boat was waxoyl on bare steel. Have a look at the Waxoyl spec sheet for full info.
  19. My boat was built with a top outlet from the tank . It was a common feature of the builder, Delph Marine. i've never had a problem priming the pump. It would be quite easy to adapt a bottom outlet tank to a higher pump.

  21. As you do not need to achieve any aesthetic result, why not a couple of coats af Waxoyl instead? That is how my inside was treated 35 years ago and on the occasion when I've needed to access it, there is no rust.
  22. Telford vented cylinders are only grade 3 which is too low for normal boat pressure systems, especially when engine heating is used.
  23. I wonder which employee previously responsible for fund raising has been sacked? Cynical me suspects that it its no-one.
  24. I think a clank every 16 seconds suggests a solenoid pump fitted on a tank with very little head to feed the float control valve.
  25. I have a Perkins 4108M in which I use Morris 10W40 Multivis which is a semi synthetic oil. Between changes, i never need to top up, whereas with generic 20/50 multigrade oils, I always had to top up with approx 1/2 to 1 litre. The used oil never feels to have any coarse bits in it and it still holds form on the dipstick.
