  1. The guy who owns it is a marine surveyor. He is offering 6mths mooring or moved to wherever I want for free. Although it is a bit basic inside the description (albei a bit flowery) if accurate is what we are looking for, something in good shape that we can make our own. I can't view till December but his offer sounds good.....so I will let you know. Thanks for the comments.
  2. Hi I am still looking but finding it a bit difficult to actually view because of the geography. I have viewed about a dozen but apart from a couple I am very disappointed with the quality. I have found this one, it cannot be viewed at the moment, but the vendor has promised me first viewing and refusal........... http://www.apolloduck.com/feature.phtml?id=443465
  3. Any comments about the specs or the lilt?
  4. Thanks for the comments. It isn't an ex hire boat it was built for the first owners. The sofa converts to a double bed and is actually good quality leather and, with the addition of a few cushions, quite comfortable although we would probably replace it with a couple of chairs. There is plenty of room for a table & chairs, don't know about the kitchen curtains but the bedroom has porthole covers, as to the rail it doesn't really bother us in fact there is a small child gate that fits across which would be great if we wanted to keep the dog inside. The engine is immaculate, one of the engineers on site showed it us and it started first time and was surprisingly quiet. As I said it has a full service history, blacked every two years and every detail noted. It' s early days yet but of what we have seen in that price range it ticks all the boxes even though I originally said we wanted reverse layout once inside it feels ok. I will keep you updated............
  5. Hi again having asked the basic questions everyone asks I would like to hear anyone's view on this boat which is my no1 choice at the mo. Went to see it at the weekend and it is a good looking well fitted boat with a full service history (A4 binder 6inches thick down to each nut & bolt purchased) Two owners from new with 2nd only owning for 2 yrs. The only problem I can see is that it lilts to one side but the broker said that could be because they have taken out furniture etc?? not sure about that one. Anyway any thoughts/comments appreciated. Still can't work out why boat prices vary so much but hey!!! Brochure.pdf
  6. Wow thanks for the warm welcome and advice I know a lot is common sense and personal choice but it is always good to hear other people's point of view. I appreciate all the comments made and will certainly not rush into anything although I would hope to have purchased something by early spring next year and, as I said, we will be using it extensively eg. a month onboard a week or two home and then a month onboard again. I am more interested in the history/condition of the boat/engine rather than it looking like the Ritz so on that basis can I ask: ex hire or not? It's just we have seen a couple well within our price bracket with the layout we want and it would leave us the funds to 'personalise' it if we wish. Thanks again Paul ps how to I contact Monty40s??
  7. Hi I am new to this forum and I realise by asking the following questions that I will be opening up Pandora's box and everyone will have their own opinion but I reakon I will glean some useful advice from any comments posted. My partner and I are retired and have had boating holidays before but are about to embark on our first purchase which we intend to use for extensive travel in the UK. We live in up in the hills above Brecon and although the B&M Canal is on our doorstep it is too restrictive not being linked to the main system. We have around £45k to spend, excluding surveys etc., would like a minimum 50ftr, cruiser stern with reverse layout. So:: What could we expect for our money? What should we look out for as necessities (rather than 'want to haves') Why does the price of boats vary so much e.g. is a is a 1978 boat as good as a similar priced 2004 boat just because of the builder? Broker or private (given we don't want to be travelling the country to view unnecessarily) Can anyone recommend a good brokerage and the million dollar question: does anyone know of a good boat already up for sale. I hope I am not asking too much of you all on my first visit best regards
