    Monitoring

No I didn't, but maybe I should have kept more detailed record of my expenses in relation to boating. I just had a general budget which included the maintenance/running costs of the boat and kept within that. Do you do anything with the data you have collated? If not then perhaps maybe question whether or not it's worthy of your time. I can see why you may want to keep record of your fuel usage but everything else you mentioned seems somewhat OTT on the face of it. Each to their own though.
  2. Does the issue occur when using the legacy theme or the shift theme or both? Please check and confirm. You may switch themes by clicking the obscure link at the bottom left of the page. If you can also include a screenshot that will help too.

  4. If it's regarding two or more matters, why not multi-quote in the same post? This should make it easy to distinguish that you're replying to a different individual and thus potentially a different sub-topic within a topic. I suppose it doesn't help that topics do drift off topic but this is another matter entirely and I'm not sure the answer to this is consecutive posts. You may use the formatting tools available to format the post in such a way to make it easy for users to differentiate between one or more entities. I'm still not sure why it warrants a new consecutive post. Please see answer to MtB's question at the very bottom of this post. This should also help in this regard. This could risk making it less user friendly by forcing the user to edit the previous post manually instead. We've taken out the burden of this by making it so the forum system do it automatically. Members can of course edit it themselves manually if they wish to update the formatting and structure of the post. I have checked several definitions online, while there is no official dictionary definition for the term there are several that also suggest it is for more than one consecutive post regardless of intent. But yes, maybe I should have used the term "consecutive posts" as to remove any ambiguity. Thanks for the suggestion and this highlights a good point. This is now in place.
  5. Typically there's no need to "double post" and it's often frowned upon on many forums. Commonly many forums frown upon or even disallow double posting by means of making it against their rules etc. We have been much more relaxed on this front but equally, facilitating double posts could potentially help bots circumvent anti-spam measures we have in place which we have been victim of recently. For this reason primarily, we have increased the threshold to 24 hours whereby the forum system will merge consecutive/double posts automagically. It also helps keep the forum tidy by reducing unnecessary database entries by consolidating consecutive posts submitted by the same user where appropriate to do so.
  6. Interesting. The first paragraph in the advert is a promise of a partial refund if you change your mind...
  7. In hindsight it may have been better to name the options Yes, interested No, not interested Indifferent (Don't care either way) Abstain The reason I put "Abstain" as an option is because it used to be that the forum system wouldn't let people see the poll results unless they have voted and some members may not wish to vote. Thus, they have the option to abstain from doing so.
  8. If only we had a badge for that...
  9. We definitely have more than 66 active members but for sure, the overall poll response thus far is somewhat disappointing. It's hard to gauge whether or not something is worthwhile if we don't get much in the way of feedback. Raw numbers are obviously a good (but not only) measure of that. That said I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to vote and give their views.
  10. Good grief! Let's hope it never floods like how they've depicted in those renderings!
  11. Seems to have changed during last update. Getting bit bored of turning stuff back off but I have asked the mods what they want me to do with it. Still waiting on more feedback in the staff forum.
  12. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  13. I can only imagine what poor ole' Chris must think when he arrives at his desk at Channel 4 HQ tomorrow morning, seeing all this drivel...
  14. Hi Chris, Thanks for your post. One couple I can think of run a Youtube channel named "Holly - The Cafe Boat". They document their life aboard as a young family with a baby. As the name suggests, they run a cafe boat and travel the canal network. We feature their videos on here from time to time. If you go to their Youtube page linked below you can obtain their email address. I don't know them personally but they might be willing to participate. https://www.youtube.com/@HollyTheCafeBoat/about Out of interest, what's your documentary going to be called? Will keep an eye out for it.
  15. It is set up in such a way to prevent misuse, yes. As such if 500 people reported yourself for spamming, nothing would happen automatically except the mods would be inundated with post reports and probably won't be very amused. I'm not going to elaborate on it any further as I don't want to give away any info that could potentially allow users to circumvent or misuse it. The key takeaway is; if you see a spammer please report them Only if specifc conditions are met. These won't be made public. I'm not saying any more on this.
  16. Yes definitely worth reporting. - We don't make use of automatic moderation tools much because there's no substitute for our moderation team who do a fantastic job - the only exception where we do use automatic moderation tools is where spam/spam attacks are involved due to the potential risk they present to our members and thus the need to act very quickly. (Regardless of whether or not the spam attack occurred at 3PM or 3AM etc) Unfortunately I cannot really publish exactly how or when the automatic moderation kicks in as I don't want to expose it to misuse. All I can really say is that it requires multiple post reports (i.e. from more than one member) and the member being reported AND the members submitting the report must match a defined criteria. Again I can't post specifics as it's also important to prevent misuse of this. (not suggesting you would personally misuse it however :))
  17. Thanks for flagging. We were indeed hit by a targeted spam attack. In this scenario the best thing is to report their posts. If enough people do this, the forum system will intervene automatically. It's really important we get spammers off the forum asap. All valid post reports are much appreciated. This will help the mods who do a fantastic job towards keeping the forum a safe & enjoyable place to be. I have also put in place some other measures to prevent these spam attacks. Unfortunately spammers are always finding new ways to advance their methods to try and circumvent measures put in place to protect against them.
  18. Many thanks for doing this. I have featured your video on our homepage so that more people get to see it. Will be great when the stretch from Saul Junction finally opens. Has been a long time coming. Hopefully not too long now! I wonder how long, they say 2025-2026 but is this likely?
  19. Here's an example showing what we can do with it

"Friday 26 May will be Trade & Preview Day when all boats and Quayside stands and much of the Show Village and Boating Marquee will be open to trade visitors and to Preview Day ticket holders. For Saturday 27 to Monday 29 May the Show is fully open to all. We hope that you will join us and look forward to seeing you there!" How to get there By Water Crick Marina is on the Grand Union Canal between bridges 12 and 13. Crick is 5½ miles and 7 locks from Norton Junction (on the Grand Union main line), and 17 miles and 10 locks from Foxton Bottom Lock (on the Grand Union Leicester Line). By Road From M1 Junction 18, take the A428 towards West Haddon, bypassing the centre of Crick Village. After the end of the bypass, the A428 crosses the Grand Union Canal on a hump-back bridge. The entrance to Crick Boat Show is on the left just after the bridge. By Rail/Air/Coach For the help getting to Crick by public transport, please see Traveline (opens in new window). Please be aware that there is no bus service to Crick on Sunday. Closest Train Stations: Long Buckby (6 miles) and Rugby (7 miles).
  21. I think I have fixed it, should let you post events now. May need to tweak it some more. Not much scope to change the functionality though, unfortunately.
  22. In a recent update, Invision renamed the forum "Calendar" to "Events" to better reflect its intended purpose. I note that we don't really use it on CWDF - But why not? There's many boating related events that are relevant to us, e.g. boat shows. Is it possible to add any events (e.g. boat shows) or anything that may be of interest to boaters & canal enthusiasts alike? You may add an event by clicking below https://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/events/ Alternatively you may share the details in this topic and I will add it. Please use the following template: Event name: Date/Time: Location: Description: Thank you

Forgive me but I didn't see your original post. - What size boat are you looking for?
  24. RichM

    ...

Thanks Mike. You're right as usual but then 65ft+ boats are more restricted as to where they can go as you know. The marina were I berthed my last boat only had a handful of berths that could accommodate a 65ft+ boat whereas there's an abundance of berths for 60ft boats and below, yet still a long waiting list for a permanent moorings there. That's what has put me off a bigger boat but maybe I'm making a bigger deal out of it than need be? After all, I do want an office space for WFH, a cabin for sleeping, a dinette, large saloon though not too fussed about the size of the galley. A Black Prince style galley would suit.
