  1. Depends by whose definition. I see knackered as being somewhat terminal. Outage is just a tech industry way of saying "site down due to a problem". Just like our boats, websites encounter problems from time to time. We try to do what we can to prevent them from happening. I do hope that those who missed all the action (or lack of?) took the time to enjoy our wonderful Canal network?! - On a more serious note, we appreciate your understanding. RichM
  2. Seems OK for me, wondering if it may be cached. Would you mind resetting your browser cache and try again? If you could let me know the outcome that would be great. RichM
  3. As some may have noticed, we encountered an outage this morning as a result of a storage issue which effectively stopped the database from functioning. This was resolved earlier this morning. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. To date, our uptime is very good but of course we will look to prevent any further outages being caused by similar issues. Thank you Best, RichM

    Head torch

I find LED lenser head torches to be great for those times when I need a pair of hands for something else. I don't use it otherwise as someone here pointed out, they naturally beam all over the place which I imagine can be an annoyance to others.
  5. I wouldn't worry too much as far as mobile data is concerned. I think as time passes, more and more consumers will ditch their fixed line broadband for 4G/LTE MiFI etc. It's only a matter of time until network providers offer high usage allowances.
  6. While it can annoying, keeping Windows up to date is quite important. May be worth a trip to McDonalds or somewhere where you can use their free WiFI to update it. I am assuming they don't block traffic for Windows updates though, I could be wrong. FWIW I pay £28 a month for a EE 64GB data only sim though it's not available on their website - I had to call them.
  7. We will likely use https at some point in the near future though it's not a major concern as we don't process payment transactions. It is however something that I have thought about especially given recent browser changes. As for using XP though - this is probably more of a concern as it's no longer patched/maintained by Microsoft and hasn't been for quite some time. While it was (arguably) a great OS in its day, it has long surpassed its use by date. It is now 16 years old.
  8. Hired a boat with them with family back in 2002. They are an established, reputable company. They are a hire company who build their own boats so as you suspected, this is most likely an ex-hire boat. The boat you linked to looks much older than the one we went on which was probably built in the mid to late 90s.

    Best Dog Food?

Aldi now sell reasonably good adult dog food named "Langham's" which is unique to Aldi as you might expect. Unlike their previous range, it is quite good in that it contains 22% meat which is nearly on a par with the much more expensive premium brands such as James Wellbeloved. Well priced too at £2.99 / 2kg and decently packaged for those who might have to go on a trek to and from their boat. That's what my Lab is on at the moment. - This is supplemented with cooked knuckle bones which I pick up reasonbly cheaply at a local pet store. They give him hours of fun and also help to keep his teeth clean too.
  12. That is a nice feature to have, what a luxury and perhaps a cost saver for many. I programme my timer based on weather forecasts and I tend to use my Eberspacher longer than necessary as a result.
  13. Tractor would be best. But if you wanted a vehicle that could do it on the odd occasion; Providing the weight of the boat/trailer is not directly transferred to the vehicle, you could do it with a large 4x4 as mentioned with low-range gearbox (a must) A Land Rover Defender 110 may be suitable (heavier than a Defender 90) If you need something a little more road-going then I'd suggest a Land Rover Discovery 2 or newer. These are heavier than Defenders so have an advantage in that respect. None are the most reliable of vehicles. A Toyota Land Cruiser may also do it but I don't know so much about them. Also depends on the amount of traction and whether or not there's any complications, but I've seen these things tow 44t articulated trucks, in the snow!
  14. Same here. Also Liverpool boat but 55'. I go about a week before I have to fill up but I pretty much use as much as I want. I only conserve if I have guests.
  15. A lot of people avoid gas or reduce their usage for safety reasons and to avoid BSS complications. My boat has a simple gas feed supplying the hob and oven only. A single 13kg gas bottle last me months. - I know people who use gas for heating and go through a bottle a week! I'm happy with my Eberspacher + wood/coal burning stove setup for heating/hot water. The Eberspacher runs on a timer which is very convenient (nice and warm when I get home from work!) and you can't fault a wood/coal burning stove for reliability & a nice cosy evening for those very cold nights. Many people report reliability issues with Eberspachers. Mine has been OK since I started using it as recommended on here (running it on max for no less than 1 hour at a time) and *touch wood* it will continue to be OK! My suggestion would be to post your current setup and people could suggest how it could be improved to provide convenience & resilience.
  16. My understanding is that they're not allowed to profit on electric or water rates. Is this the case? If so I would have thought this would apply irrespective of the type of meter used. Can anyone confirm?
  17. Some of the questions also appear on their FAQ https://www.watersidemooring.com/Home/FAQ
  18. I have a few damp patches appear. (see attached) Does anyone know how best to treat/remove this from the plywood? Cheers
  19. You can use a proxy as long as it's not to circumvent a suspension or for the purpose of using multiple accounts. I proxy to CWDF nearly every day.
  20. They also do a 64GB plan for £28.00 a month but on a 12 month contract - but you have to phone them up. It's ideal for liveaboards who use a lot of data like me. Although for me, the local mast is down right now meaning I'm having to use 3 at the moment which is ridiculously slow in comparison. If only they made dual sim "MiFI" devices that automatically failover to the sim/network with the best coverage, now that would be deal!
  21. Thanks. Can you re-test? It's a little awkward making these changes via my phone but let me know if it's still not working and I will have another look.
  22. It should be possible to upload attachments via PM which I have tested using a test user account. Although .docx wasn't supported until now. See attached, go to the same page and click "Choose files", then upload.
  23. We don't ban IP ranges. Doing so would prevent access for many users and new users alike. As a slight aside, even with 3,706,452,992 public IPv4 addresses, it's not uncommon for dynamically assigned addresses to be recycled and later used by another member, at least geographically.
  24. I have one for hot water and radiators, including 2 near useless fin rads. Works a treat and gives me hot water within 30 mins though I always leave it running for at least an hour. It's on a timer which is handy as I can ensure I have hot water/heating for when I get back home from work etc. One thing to note is that they sound like jet engines spooling up on startup so if you need to fire it up early in the morning or late at night, the neighbours may not appreciate. Once it has started up after about 10 minutes they're much much quieter though some may still complain
