    Many years ago I was involved in the repair and renting out of washing machines and one of the problems with identical symptoms to that referred to was caused by "tracking" between contacts within the timer/programmer. Being a common problem at the time I made a template from a damaged programmer which allowed me to drill a small hole through the timer and therefore through the tracking rectifying the fault. Don`t expect this really helps but I personally would certainly look at the programmer being malfunctioning.
