  1. Living remote and dragging my dog through the mud for 8 mile a day I don't have a washing machine in the boat.

After three days I look like I've been rolling in mud literally, if I go near a road or sit on a park bench with my dog people ask me if I am ok.

Nò thanks I don't need money.

Taking the piss is all very well, but I don't think any of them realised quite how dangerous it was. If more water had entered the bow the boat could have sunk with him inside, or he could have easily been knocked off the bow by that impact. Then nobody would have been laughing.

Sorry I did not see the narrow boat episode I thought the thread was about the one In France and smashed window...

  3. Sorry but this thread should be about paying respects only.

This thread, just leave it and start another out of respect to those still in shock, I imagine many close boaters are struggling right now and the rescue people who we all 'sometimes think are in immune to coping.

No more discussion about why or if's

  4. Yes dogs are are a part of family and having them out if the boat while on the go is appealing, sorry I don't mean to be down beat bit I've pulled out 2 dead dogs last summer ok both did not have life jackets but both came from boaters unaware their dogs had even fallen off after quite a few miles.

No judgement but both boaters were on holiday with their house dogs.

I realise everyone loves their boating dogs but when it goes wrong it happens so fast.

Sorry to be a grim poster.

  5. First my condolences to all of her family and it seems she was a really well known lovely person.

I think we should only pay our respects to all on this thread.

And I think in A week or so maybe ' on another thread we can discuss how we can  all help each other to be safe'r ',  but not here.

Why not start by buying a boat with a bigger door, given how picky you appear to be ;):P

Or more seriously, find a sofa you like then get someone like Martin Kedian of this parish to enlarge your door to suit.

    Mike that's a bit harsh, ?

Sorry but I have zero money and you don't know anyones''s money status.

WINED YOUR NECK IN A LITTLE.

Your a long time poster with a lot of knowledge bit it's not a golden ticket to be rude to 'NEW BOATERS '.

    Seriously.

If you know the area you'll know it's in a place where boat people only run their engines to get past it.  Still if you have the money and are indeed a nob head then you could probably afford to also buy the boats needed to moor opposite and pollute.

Did ???? You miss my humour ????.

I don't like people who buy canal side property's and then phone to moan.

    It's was easily seen.

Get them grit blasted then find a powder coating company locally.  Forget for 10 years.

The powder coaters may well be able to degrease and blast for you.

If you are not too fussy as to colour the powder coaters will probably be able to add them to a larger job for not much moola(foldable of course).

We used to keep warm with a thick duvet for years and years, as our boat like yours has the bed at the opposite end as the stove. Eventually we fitted a second stove, and now is too bloody hot.

A second stove would be nice.

Brassed off, rather than keeping heating on all night, buy a better sleeping bag which will keep you warm . Also, are all your windows shut when you go to bed? If so, that will increase the dampness inside the boat. Trying leaving a few open (on the non windward side) and see if it helps.

I already have a 15tog duvae and a dog but I will try leaving a window open.

    Thanks Haggis.

Once you mix a shoreline, an inverter, and/or a generator it is a bit complicated because all inverters do not work in the same way and doing things one way may be fine for some but destroy others. That is why I suggested that you may need professional help.

It matters not a jot what the bank is made from if you connect a wire from your hull to a spike in the grass then you are providing half a circuit with the water forming the other half. Depending on a number of things this might cause hull corrosion so asw Brain says do not do it. However in certain situations the electricity company may demand such a spike is used but that is all to do with providing  an effective earth wire in the shore line cable. You do not need to concern yourself about this as long as any shoreline bollard is professionally installed.

An galvanic isolator should protect your boat but take note that they can fail in one of two ways, open circuit or short circuit. Both have potentially undesirable or even dangerous consequences so you need one with some form of indication on it or learn how to test it and do so on a regular basis.

As  long as your hull has no connection to the bank , be it a earthing spike as you describe or an unprotected shoreline earth then a boat close by with an unprotected shoreline earth or an electrical fault could rot your boat as the fault current flows via the water, your boat and the unprotected shoreline earth. If your boat is not in electrical contact with the bank/ground then damage is far less likely.

    Thanks Tony for explaining.

I will change the galvanic isolator for one with a reading.

Why would you need to keep the Ebersplutter running all night?

We never run ours overnight, it gets too hot for one thing. But we still don't get damp under the mattress which is over the water tank.

I have a bigger boat With the radiators in the middle /front of the boat and I sleep at the back.
