  1. How did I not see these??? Fantastic. I would but I'm looking to get them as soon as possible as I'm painting my roof and need a way to stop the solar panel from being blown around and scratching the new paint I've bought some now, thank you for your help!
  2. I am no good with metal work, if someone wants to make them for me I'd be happy to purchase them!
  3. Hey, does anyone know where to buy these? I've found one website but at £75 I'm hoping to find somewhere cheaper.
  4. Whilst I do love a good conversation about composting, has anyone got any actual photos of their Airhead installation? I know I asked about Seperatt but I've now decided to go with the Airhead.
  5. Furness Vale doesn't have residential moorings
  6. Thanks Captain but it's a bit too far out for us. We tried Lyme View and they do have spaces but it also seems a bit of a way out, and a bit "holiday park" if that makes sense. The spot is absolutely beautiful though. I've tried everywhere else around and they're full up.
  7. Anyone know the cheapest place to buy an Airhead?
  8. Couldn't agree more NMEA, This is the reason I've decided to go for the airhead. It's made for boaters in mind and installation looks simple enough to fit myself. The size is also a benefit, we have a tiny wetroom and the Separett is rather large. I think we will be ordering this some time this week so I'll keep you all updated as I go!
  9. Hi all, I'm looking at buying a separett composting toilet but it doesn't have a liquid/urine tank. Can anyone give me an idea of what they did or preferably pictures of their installation? Personally I think it's a better toilet than the Airhead due to having a better liquid division wall, removable compost bucket and cleaner venting system but I might have to go with an Airhead due to the size difference, and they're both great so if anyone has any installation pictures that would be great too and any "fors/againsts" would be perfect. Thanks in advance!
  10. We've spoken to Captain Jack but unfortunately they don't have the services we need (Elsan etc). New Mills Marina is also full up. Definitely a bad time of year to be looking!
  11. Thanks for your help all. I will keep an eye on it and report here if it didn't work properly. At least I know what to try next if it doesn't work
  12. It's too hot to argue, I had no intention of saying you were incorrect, I must have mis read the comment. Yes I now get you mean they would set up the pump correctly and it should be lined up to the marker. After ringing my local mechanic (who is well trusted and respected) he mentioned to at least try turning the pump to see if it helped. I turned it anti clockwise and it definitely got worse, put it to the marker and still lumpy and a fair amount of smoke and I turned it clockwise and the smoking stopped and sounded very sweet. I tightened everything up and left it running and it's not spluttering or shaking anymore. GRANTED the engine has now warmed up but it still spluttered when I'm neutral at idle. I'm going to wait for it to cool down and see if it has helped with a cold start. Video to how it runs now: https://youtu.be/NcKVx7K3jes
  13. When did I imply I don't know what either of you are on about? I think you need to chill on the defensive. I'm asking advice and am giving you all the detail I know so you can correct/advise me. No need to be like that. This is what I've done, I have no idea how to check the timing gear/chain/tensioner so I'll call someone out. I was just asking to try and save some money.
  14. The pump was sent off to be reconditioned and was fitted afterwards by a different mechanic so they didn't calibrate it to the engine.
  15. It's lines up with the pointer but I've been told it won't matter if it's lined up to that after reconditioning a pump. I've also been told they used to sell tools for this exact problem but they aren't available any more.
  16. Hi all, I have a BMC 1.8 that ran fine, then I had a leak from the fuel pump that meant I had to get it reconditioned. Now at idle it runs really lumpy and produces white smoke. It seems ok in gear and moving, maybe with the odd splutter. I know removing and reinstalling the fuel pump can mess with the timing, I'm pretty dim with these engines can I only twist the pump one way or another and repeat as a trial and error method or is there something that would be easier? Thanks in advance.
  17. Hi all, So it's coming up to winter and we've decided we want a mooring after cruising for a year and a half (And the CRT breathing down out necks). Does anyone know of any vacancies around Manchester? Anywhere close to Manchester, Ashton, Hyde, Marple, New Mills, Whaley Bridge, furthest away Macclesfield. Any information appreciated!
  18. I get the purpose of both primer and undercoat. My main question is, is it more of a time/money issue or will there be an actual problem covering the surface in primer, undercoat then topcoat. There are some spots of bare metal and paint and with 20 litres of primer say there, I feel like I should prime and sand the whole boat before using under/top coat. I have a refund request with the seller of the primer so if I should send it back I'd appreciate your opinions
  19. Thanks all. Yeah I'll be using Abranet disks and I'll try a few different attachments with my grinder. I don't want it to be too aggressive in the cabin sides as I'm just keying up/smoothing but I'll need it for the hull. Does anyone know what I should do with the primer? Should I use it yay or nay?
  20. Brill, thanks all. Next question: I've started sanding and have done one section. Some bits down to bare metal mostly not. I've got 20ltrs of Grey Oxide Primer but I've been told not to use it if I'm not taking it down to bare metal. Should I return the primer or use it? Thanks! Oh and thanks for the info Crossley, I've just shelled out £50 for a Bosch sander so can't afford a better one at the moment. I've bought a wire disk attachment for my drill which I'll make use of around the hull
  21. It looks loose enough to use a paint scraper tbh, then sand it smooth.
  22. Ok thanks all. I've ordered a Bosch Orbital Sander. I'm going to sand pretty much every inch of it, in regards to the hull (down to the water line or close to it) what should I do with the old thick paint? I'm guessing it'll be bitumen or whatever they used to black it. Should i steer clear of attacking that with a sander and grinder?
  23. Hi all, Just a quick one. I'm looking at keying up (not totally stripping to metal) my narrowboat ready for a fresh lick of paint. I've seen some orbital sanders on eBay and the likes and the reviews are pretty awful. I have a small angle grinder, would using a flapper attachment be too rough or is it worth using that for everything? Or should I just shell out on a orbital sander (don't really want to pay more than £40) Thanks in advance
  24. Great tip, that sounds like what I'm looking to do to be honest. Having a quick look, the smallest depth they do in the single channel struts has a maximum uniform load of 148kg per m2 for a length of 2m, which is massively impressive. If I use 3-4 struts going horizontally maybe with some other struts running vertically to keep everything together, I think it might be plenty to hold a flooring for a maximum of 2 people at a time, which it definitely won't be that many. I'll have a re-design
