  1. I've sent the CRT a message now with the details of what happened. Thanks.
  2. I was going down Filance Lock on the Staffs & Worcs, when my port side of my boat got caught on a row of bricks that seem to jut out further than those higher up. I noticed when my boat was sitting somewhat more diagonal than its usual list. Then I saw the starboard side was resting on the opposing wall and the bottom was out of the water. I partially refilled and emptied again, and it went down fine. Is this something I should be reporting to the CRT? I know they have an ongoing notice about this lock having bulge in the wall, with a reduced width and awaiting proper repair - so it's a known issue. Is there any chance that reporting it would encourage them to get it fixed any quicker?

    Flywheel Advice

There isn't much in the way of markings on the altenator. It looks like a Lucas A127 or clone. I've added a bulb to the circuit, which has helped. I tried a 1.2W bulb, which stayed illuminated and the battery didn't charge, even after increasing the throttle. With a 2.2W bulb it went off straight after starting the engine and the battery showed a charging voltage of above 14v. Thanks for everyone's advice - it's helped a lot.

    Flywheel Advice

The electrics are a nightmare. Totally bodged and in need of ripping out and starting afresh. There doesn't seem to be a light in the circuit as far as I can see. I'll use the advice given so far to have another prod around the electrics and have a think. Thanks.

Thanks so much. That's all very useful. I think that will help me get somewhere.

I realise that I've been searching for the wrong word, which hasn't helped. Engines aren't really my area of knowledge. Thanks.

    Flywheel Advice

I've recently purchased my second boat. It's a bit of a project. ? The battery isn't charging at the moment, regardless of the speed that I run the engine (Lister SR2). My surveyor was the first to suggest the flywheel on my engine isn't big enough for the ratio required to run the alternator fast enough to generate power. Could anyone give me any advice on this? Would replacing the flywheel with a larger one be feasible enough? It seems to me like the frame and the throttle control might be in the way of fitting a larger flywheel. Thanks.
  8. I did ask, but they didn't seem interested in offering a recommendation. It may be worth me asking again, incase it was just a miscommunication. Cheers.
  9. At the moment I'm hoping someone could come to me at the dry dock that I have booked. However, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
  10. I need some repairs doing under the waterline. Currently I have a temporary patch, which could do with some welding for a more permanent fix. The boat is scheduled to go into dry dock near Birmingham next month, however they said they don't provide any welding facilities. Could anyone recommend a suitable welder in the area? Thanks.
