  1. My issue with the staircase specifically was the lack of a bridge across the middle. Perhaps that has been remedied since we went through it. Having to run all the way round the lock to drop paddles in an emergency, instead of nipping across a bridge, looked to me like an accident waiting to happen.
  2. I wasn't aware that Curdworth top is shorter but I do think it looks authentic. I was horrified by the new locks on the Droitwich Narrow Canal with their huge concrete cills and square entry walls.
  3. In terms of comparing to new lock construction, I suggest taking a look at the Curdworth relocated top lock.
  4. I think mine is Craftmaster Bright Red, this matches the handrails and coach lines.

Licence renewal may not be synchronised with insurance renewal either, so this should not be a concern.

The rationale for the CC surcharge was that these boat owners use the system more and so cost CRT more. Therefore, the proposed arrangement of six months minimum home mooring plus status change fees doesn't make any sense to me. Additionally, as described, it doesn't match what a fair number of CC-ers actually do in the winter. Some also make shorter term use of temporary paid for moorings when they wish to be away from the boat. In my view, CRT must at the very least amend the arrangement to take account of winter moorings and might also consider offering status changes for each full calendar month of paid mooring. A refund on the next annual licence, based on documentary evidence, might be easier to administrate. Without a fair and workable scheme, there will almost certainly be an increase in the number of ghost moorings and an even greater temptation to not update the licence record. I am, and have always been, a home moorer.
  9. In my opinion, the last bit of the Llangollen canal from the aqueduct to the town is by far the best section. (Also the first section of canal I ever cruised on.)

Surely only the company concerned, policy number & expiry date?

Yes, but the same is true of a liability claim though, of course, the amount could be a lot higher and damage to CRT property greater.
  12. We started at Trefor; it was a long time ago.

Thank you. Interestingly they don't mention salvage specifically though this it must tend to cause them problems when this is needed but not covered.

CRT are probably most interested in the public liability cover.
  15. CRT may believe that climate change is more likely to get them extra funding than vandalism.
  16. According to CRT's newsletter, the landslip was caused by climate change. Funny that, some of us thought it was due to lack of maintenance.

Not everyone understands that the NAA agreement only applies to more recently constructed marinas. Your comment did not specify NAA payers.

The other moorers might also ask why you deliberately leave some berths empty when filling them should result in lower mooring fees for all. (This is different from having voids due to lack of customers.)

    Some marinas not all.

I think I'm anticipating a change to the duty rules being announced in the coming budget. When does come in, there will be an updated or new document on the HMRC website giving guidance to RDCOs.

I think the government still need to sort out the HMRC rules/guidance on this. It appears to be more complex than simply saying we can declare our propulsion percentage and pay 5% VAT on domestic use because HVO is already subject to special duty arrangements.
  22. Because of what gabble wrote. There must be a reason why a pub with longstanding good reviews had what may have been one bad day.
  23. Surely the original dispensation was CRT not challenging at the planning permission stage.
  24. That would mean any that went cruising would have to stay out for a whole month before returning to their marina. It would make sense to limit wide beam movements to, perhaps, one morning per week and try to choose the quietest day.
  25. Try filling in the enquiry form on the CRT website? I always get annoyed that these notices ask us narrowboaters to take care.
