  1. Sorry to say I can only echo Alan's post. You appear to be in the 'Catch 22' situation. You need to sell the house and have the money available, probably need a bolt hole in between, otherwise you will also be under pressure to buy a boat and probably not the correct one.
  2. The cylinders also have a 'use by' date. Off hand I think the life is three years. Other crew member tried hers out last summer and it worked, although the cylinder was two years out of date. Replaced cylinder on hers, of course, but also checked and replaced mine, can't be to careful. No connection, just a customer, http://www.lifejackets.co.uk/categories/70/lifejacket-co2-cylinders Bee they also sell complete jackets.
  3. Brownsover between bridge 59 and 58 on the offside, small park but the delivery vehicle will need to go under a hight barrier (2 metres, I think) to get in. I understand that a new water point has been installed, elsan also available in brick building, so that should be clear if no moorings available on park side, moor on opposite side and move across when futon arrives Tesco's available within five minute walk if you need supplies.
  4. None of the above, they can only do one job well and the other not so well. It is all to do with the support of the mattress/seat different density is required. It will always be a compromise. Look after your back, sleeping/sitting on the wrong support, you may not notice the problem when young but as you age it will come back to bite you.
  5. Then hopefully they have looked after the engine as well. As with cars an engine can be replaced quite easily but if the rest of the car/boat is a rust bucket...
  6. All depends... whether it has been meticulously maintained or whether it got that far by luck.
  7. Birthdays are only shown if you have put it in your profile. It only shows the first few, think there is a 'button' that can show more, if there is a great number of them.
  8. Off the top of my head and taking a guestimate a minimum of £2,000 per foot. Think of the work, stripping out, extending all the electrics, water etc. etc. fitting out and that does not even cover the metal work involved, cutting boat in two dragging apart, lining it all up so you do not get a banana boat, welding and all the others bits I may have missed.
  9. Warning, Watts has nothing to do with brightness. Lumen's is a measure of brightness. Light colour has an effect, you need 'warm white' for living with think ordinary house lighting, 'cool white' is similar to LED torches think operating theatre. You can have nearly any light fitting you like as there will almost definitely be an LED bulb lamp to fit. (may need an adaptor) Have a look at Bedazzled for the different lamps and the adaptors available
  10. This was possibly true when 'red diesel' (gas oil) was available but 'red diesel' is now the same as 'white' with dye added. If it is doing the shut down even when on shoreline. Check all electrical connections for cleanliness and tightness. It needs cleaning and servicing. Check out YouTube as mentioned above.
  11. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  12. The hull is 26 years old, no matter how good the internals, it could be a colander underneath. Look past the glitz, very deeply
  13. Go with the reputable hull builder you like, go with the boat builder you like. Not necessarily the same company Then ensure that you maintain it, properly, and the boat will outlast you and your off spring. Shells (hulls) the 'norm' is 10,6,5,4. baseplate, hull sides, cabin sides, cabin top,(roof). Sometimes the cabin sides and roof are both 4, so it would be 10,6,4
  14. It'll cost you. You want something like this Amazon Make sure it is 4g (LTE) and not a 3g one. Then you will need one or two aerials Solwise Again make sure it is 4g (LTE) compatible Ensure you also get the correct connector. Aerial to Mi-Fi. or just move the Osprey to a better location so that the boat does not block the signal.
  15. By booster do you mean the ability to transmit further, stronger the wi-fi signal to your equipment or to receive a better, stronger (data/phone) signal to the Mi-Fi.
  16. Use the same blacking as is on there now hammerite or any other paint may cause a problem when you next have it blacked. Next time it is blacked cheek them for a little for touching up. You will probably have paid for it anyway. The boat will not rust away in the next two years.
  17. Oooopsss, yes apologies all around, I knew that but from looking at the pictures and typing the brain got it wrong.
  18. The easiest way to see, if you think the price is to high, would you do the job for the amount charged, think hourly rate. Minimum wage £7.60 an hour (think that's correct but near enough) 8 hour day £60.80 buy for that you will get an unqualified, unskilled person. That does not cover cost of tools, transport, book keeping etc. etc.
  19. My doors fit into a metal frame, just like a window into its frame but the bottom slopes so that the water if it gets in is directed to the outside. There is also a 'canopy/porch' for want of the correct word, that sits above the doors and overlaps to the side, that directs any water coming from above the doors away to the side.
  20. Taking the prices and you saying over/under budget you could get the first one for your budget, . boats are like houses in that respect the asking price is the beginning of negotiation. The first one is 'trad' stern and the second cruiser that is down to personal choice but it is generally thought that a 'trad' is better for live aboard. The first one is also 3' longer, 3' in a boat is a lot of room. The first one was built in Gloucester by the look of it, by a company that is not known for boat building, does not mean it is bad. The engine has not been used in 7 years, if the hours stated are true and not a misprint, not even run in or reached its first service interval. As long as the oil has been changed every year (minimum) then it may be OK. Second one not quite so well 'speced' and is 10 years older. As to price for each of them, sorry not my 'speciality' hopefully others will pop in that know more. Personal choice for me would be the first
  21. Witchword With reference to your post #35, all seems good and others have said the points I would have made. So good luck. If you find a boat come back with a link to the site it is on (start a new thread) and lots of comments will be made, some good and no doubt some bad but it will help you make a decision. ps. it is refreshing to find someone that has thought and done research on 'boat living' before joining the forum.
  22. The earth is flat...do you believe me. By the way I have government security clearance and are of good character I hope it all goes well. Yes No The survey is for that moment of inspection, not next week or two years time.
