  1. Hi Steve As has been said essential is debatable but try this, get your washing and carry it to the end of the road and back. If you can manage this, will you be able to in two years time. Will you want too. Without wishing to upset Sueb, you will either need an engine driven or stand alone generator to run it. To upset Sueb even more our boat, in build, will have a 7Kw stand alone generator.
  2. Tony We were lucky enough to borrow a boat at the end of July and travelled from Oxford to Cropredy and return. (one week) There are a number of legally moored boats but we never had a problem finding somewhere to moor. It is well worth a visit if only to see/meet the local 'aristocracy' [bones and Maffi] not sure about 'Proper Job' not met him yet.
  3. May I apologise to you for not receiving a personal welcome on your arrival. Please accept a welcome to you from me. Oh!!.................... is that your dummy over there.

  5. But remember you do need enough room to remove the cassette.
  6. WJM I think you know this but for clarity for those not so knowledgeable. Plugs A plug (with pins) should never be 'live'. A socket (holes for pins to enter) is the part that should be 'live'
  7. Tony Just to clarify, you have a connection at both ends of the boat, are they both plugs, ie. they have 'pins' and not 'sockets'. I have seen boats with a plug (pins) at the stern [supply in] and a socket (holes) in the cratch, the socket in the cratch was to supply a feed for electrical equipment (drill, self pump out etc.) being used on the bank. If you have a plug at both ends then it does need checking as there is the possibility that you will have plug with live pins not a good idea an completely wrong.
  8. True but the dictionary can be changed, if using Firefox go here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3
  9. Or, If using Windows XP. Start All Programs Accessories System Tools Character map You could always make a 'shortcut' on your desktop. This will give you all the different typefaces and lots of other 'symbols' it also give the code

    co Alarm

Agreed. almost , keep the old one, if the new one proves it (the old one) is of no use then throw it (the old one) away.
  11. Seen the trailer, Billy (electrician) cuts hole in side of boat. ps. above the water line.
  12. Yes did this about 40 years or more ago. Do not remember now how to do it.
  13. Hi Cannot give the technical stuff. I have one, it is 3.5 million (allegedly)and the bulb lamp is 100watt 12v. It will only last about 30 minutes on the batteries (2* 6v) Note: Batteries now duff (technical term for knackered) would probably cost more to replace batteries, than buy a new one.
  14. Hi Mandy Have a look here http://www.angelfire.com/rnb/malcsworld/ph...stpictures.html this was posted by a member some time ago. There are other 'hosting sites' It may look complicated but basically you 'post' your pictures into an 'album' on the host site, copy the 'link' it gives you and post that 'link' onto the forum.
  15. Thinking aloud No anodes, boat will need to be out of water to fit them, blacking to be removed at fixing points, needs to be re-blacked around the new anodes, who is paying for the crane, if boat back in water, how will it be possible to be sure they are fitted (muddy water).
  16. I think you forgot this or at least I hope that you did.
  17. From http://www2.mihalis.net/canal/cgi-bin/index.cgi Canalplan AC click on plan a journey on left hand side then select load a ring. This is calculated based on 8 full days travelling. Each full day will be approximately 9 hours and 31 minutes cruising If you put in the number of days it will adjust the hours needed to travel.
  18. Wonderful news ..................do not have to many 'adventures' on the way, safe journey.
  19. Neither pump out or cassette smell, they do not have a nose. They only stink, if they are not maintained properly.
  20. Ladies and Gentlemen A lot of erudite arguments on all sides but it is very simple, honestly. If you cannot pay, you cannot have. Do not get me wrong, I have sympathy for those that are in genuine dire straits, a little true story (first hand knowledge). I was involved in returning a family to their home, ( single parent, not her fault, and three children) during the journey we talked and what that lady had been through was not the best of times and I felt sympathetic. On arriving at the home we helped her into the house with the children, on entering, lets just say the house could have done with a good clean (wipe your feet on the way out) but in the corner of the room was a large, brand new, TV. The children wanted some good clothing, sorry but sympathy (for her)went out of the door. We all have to prioritise, just some prioritise the wrong things.
