  1. here's an interesting article on LTE; http://www.solwise.co.uk/4g-lte-antenna-considerations.html
  2. you're like a broken record. I was talking to someone the other day about the boater ( yes. that one, not two, not twenty-two ) who painted the boat's name on a visitor mooring. it was in 2007! - that's nearly 8 years ago for those for whom time passes. isn't it time you found someone else to vilify? rather than trotting out the sans pathetic story every time the subject arises.
  3. interesting how you know so much about the kennet and avon without travelling more than 20km from your mooring. or does that wild statement simply match your pre-conceptions? I assume your making the same wild guesses about london or are you simply following the sheep pack over this one? I'm also interested in what exactly you think the point of a coal boat is if not to deliver to boats? perhaps you think all fuel transactions should take place mid-stream by making statements such as these you immediately become part of the problem. try a little more thought and a little less prejudice and there's a chance you could become part of the solution instead.
  4. possibly a stone one, there's certainly no towpath for a mile or so. but gravel? no.
  5. I wouldn't call the IWA and APCO 'shadowy' but perhaps you have deeper knowledge of a provisional wing?
  6. This seems a little far fetched to me. A gravel path on the bed of a river - who is responsible for keeping the gravel still? I know the river in Cambridge very well indeed. the bed of the river is mainly gravel, one of the things that makes it so popular for punting. and it's mainly of a depth through the colleges that I can imagine a large horse would find footing but path? no.
  7. I think it's discontinued in favour of the E5573. it's not clear whether this has two aerial sockets - does anyone know?
  8. try getting hold of one mind. they say on the website it's £69 Payg but when you try to buy it....
  9. as I say I would trust Matthew Symmons further than I could throw him so his assertion that volunteers don't receive any information about the boats is at best a lie of omission. because, of course, the kind of person who would volunteer for this role is going to be influenced by the 'status' of the vessel. eg returning to a 'red' flagged boat more often than normal.
  10. yes, it's looking like that one, though a gnat's pricy at £100
  11. does anyone know which MiFi routers are LTE 2600 (4g) compatible? I assume the Huawei E5332 is not, although I can't find a definitive answer. further is the iPad 2 ( the one with the lightening connector) 4G compatible?
  12. I am not noted for being an apologist for CRT but I imagine on this occasion there will be no feedback of data to the inputer as there is no benefit from so doing.
  13. I am assured, by Matthew Symmons ( if you can believe anything he says ) that the volunteers take numbers with pen and paper, then input them through a web page. they are identified by laminated ID around the neck but have no other CRT clothing. he further asserts that data ftom random members of the public taking numbers is not used as sighting data.
  14. . it's a lot easier than Hatton. and there's a pub at each end too.
  15. the gear cluster comes out, relatively easily once everything else is removed. it's not so very heavy. I can certainly manouver it. everyrhing that is except the bottom case. that remains in place. you won't get the cluster out without removing the cross shafts. they are in two pieces so a lot shorter once uncoupled. I realise this doesn't directly answer your question and I haven't thought about disassembly that way about. my imoression is that you would have the same problem, the cluster won't come out or go back in until the forks and shafts are removed. I hope this is not too garbled, I'm on my phone on the bus. what are the beds made of?
  16. and do you know whether the owner is taking CRT to court?
  17. aah... ok. so... Ah but the victim , probably considers that CRT have been in the wrong all along and he still expects to get his boat back for free, once the police, CRT, judges etc finally listen to him and see the light. facts would help !!
  18. ah, you know he's deluded then? some facts at last. please share. i assume you are stating that a license was necessary where his boat was moored. can we have some detail please?
  19. it's usual to share with another narrow boat unless you go down at a weird time. arrive devizes the day before and take the day to do it, you'll meet another boat in the morning and it's really easy because the locks are so close together. a lot easier than the lock a mile to get there on the Eastern side.
  20. ....or he believed it was moored in a place he didn't need a licence There are so many missing pieces to this jigsaw puzzle that speculation is just that; an interesting discussion of possiblities. I am of the mind that Mayalld's point 2 is the case - it explains the boatyard's actions. If so, this video - and the actions portrayed - was so the wrong way to go about things.
