  2. Photos of the 'hole' are available on Facebook I don't do it so can't post them. Rog
  3. For what it's worth, make your boat as secure as gives YOU peace of mind. When our boat was broken into the offender(s) simply smashed a window and entered and exited that way. Security, or lack of it, is simply a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Rog
  4. Then you're not seeking permission you're advising them of the reason for your actions. I did say it was semantics 😁 Rog
  5. Semantics I know ... but ring C&RT and advise them of your circumstances which make a longer stay necessary. We don't have to doff our cap and ask permission 😁 Communication is good though. Rog
  6. The only legal requirement is not to stay for over 14 days (unless circumstances dictate). These short term moorings are intended for us all to play nicely, share the space and not hogg one hot-spot. The choice is yours but personally 48 hrs on each seems OK. Rog
  7. Pre covid, so 2018 or 2019, we were stuck for two days at Rumps lock waiting for water levels to be increased in the pounds up to Wheelock. We were visited regularly by C&RT staff who assured us they were doing all they could to feed water down from Bosley locks. Apparently the main feed for that stretch of the T&M is Todbrooke Reservoir and Coombes Reservoir. If that is true, there is no wonder water is low at present and will remain low until 2025. Rog
  8. I asked C&RT staff regarding boats without name and number and was assured they have a process but didn't explain ... as I'm not really concerned I had no desire to pursue it. Rog
  9. And the increasing number of boats with no visible registration number or name? Are an issue for C&RT staff and not every 'curtain twitcher' who has no idea what stage any process is at. Rog
  10. How do you know they're unlicensed unless you've checked their reg no. ? Marinas and private moorings are visited by number checkers, and many private moorings insist on license and insurance for obvious reasons. It's amazing how easy it is to find evidence to support one's own prejudices 😁 Rog
  11. One sided random attacks do sadly happen. Some years ago my cousin's Mum and Father in law were both randomly stabbed, along with several others, in a Crewe Post Office. No ryhme or reason ... the assailant had mental health issues and was arrested. Being simply in the wrong place at the wrong time can be all it takes if you're unlucky. Rog
  12. I'd hope we live in a society that finds the existence of homelessness abhorrent ... maybe one day but probably not today. Rog
  13. Discussion about homelessness is a very different , though worthwhile subject to C&RT's interest in Mr Ward. The point I was making (poorly it seems) is that I suspect C&RT's interest in Mr Ward is now at an end. Rog
  14. Is it not likely, that having removed Mr Ward's boats from their waters, C&RT will be entirely unconcerned and happy to be ignorant of Mr Ward's ongoing housing situation. It is a fact that C&RT do not, and never have enforced byelaws (who knows why) and they have demonstrated yet again their painfully slow but ultimately effective way of dealing with none compliant boats. There are unfortunately many around the system seen to sleep in tents on or adjacent to towpaths. If sufficient complaints are made to the local council by residents, perhaps some action may be taken, but as far as C&RT are concerned I suspect Mr Ward will be filed under 'Sorted' like other boat owners who chose to push-back rather than simply comply with the very minimal requirements of ownership. Rog
  15. Thanks Andrew ... know anything about the shell style ? Rog
  16. Everytime I come here the bloomin' format has changed. No worries. Rog
  17. Tranquil Rose used to be a regular visitor to the Saltisford Arm but can no longer pass through the Warwick Fly Boat bridge (below the lock) due the the bridge shifting. It has been secured with steel supports but has restricted passage. Rog
  18. I hope he is offered some suitable refuge ... I hope that's the kind of country and people we are. George may not accept any offers ... some homeless street dwellers have and continue to decline such offers. But I still hope the offers are available. It's a very sad and unsatisfactory situation, but no one seems to be coming up with serious alternatives. Rog
  19. Well he's lived in the L.A. area for over 10 years and is about to be made homeless. I would hope they would be able to provide some refuge for the guy. Rog
  20. Not been on the K&A since 2012 (and the guy was in dispute with C&RT then) so I have no axe to grind with him personally ... nor indeed am I greatly concerned as to whether the man is left unlicensed, unmoving and living in squalor or not. If he is actually disabled , and unemployed I would hope the local authority would be able to rehome him ... I hope that's the type of society we live in. However the question remains if regulations require simple compliance, how should authorities handle determined none compliance ? Rog
  21. I would agree. But I have seen no evidence that C&RT haven't considered his welfare ... indeed part of the reason for this matter dragging on for over ten years is because C&RT have sought to avoid being seen as 'the big bad wolf'. Sad as it is, there must come a point when removal of the boats is all that's left to be done ... after ten years one would hope all possible alternatives have been tried. Perhaps at that point the local authority need to step in. Rog
  22. This saga has dragged on for over ten years @kriss88 ... what do you think should be done ? Rog
  23. I said for example 10% We have no real input into what level the rise should be, I merely propose that all licence holders should contribute equally. Rog
  24. Just for clarity my view of equitable is, for example, a 10% rise across the board. One chooses what vessel to buy (wide or narrow) and then choose how to use it (cc or mooring) and the options are available to all (ignoring personal issues) ... I see no valid reason to apply new licensing differentials. We should all be financing maintenance costs surely ? Rog
  25. I understand your housing point @magnetman and accept in some areas (predominantly London) this is an issue that has been left to 'fester'. But if the point of the licensing system is to regulate those on the water, and to finance maintenance and repairs then shouldn't rises in fees be applied equitably to ALL using the water ? Rog
