  1. I know I'm off topic here, but I was on the Lancaster Canal recently and you could moor up anywhere, Bilsborough, Garstang, Galgate, Lancaster, Hest Bank and Carnforth were practically empty.
  2. Duck Island Boat Company have about two 2 berth boats. Luxury fitted and at reasonable rates, I'm not sure but I think a 2 berth is available only on a weeks hire. They are based at Garstang Marina.
  3. They are all houses along that road, must be just an accomodation address.
  4. I had the same problem months ago using the Apple TV box, if I paused the video it took about one minute to 'unfreeze' then went back to the beginning. Looking online I discovered Apple did something to the system but never bothered checking to see what happened. Instead of getting an updated Apple TV box at £100+ I got a Fire TV stick from Amazon at £25 and fitted that, since then I get a lot more adverts, about 5 seconds long, but brilliant viewing on Youtube and a lot more channels to choose from.
  5. Guardian got the date wrong, it happened March 30th not April 30th.

  8. Hi Jerry As far as I am aware no hire boat company on the Lancaster allows passage down the Glasson Branch. As other members state it is because on insurance reasons. I assume its to remain competitive with other hire companies on other networks but seeing as it's often cheaper on the national network with locks than the Lancaster I can't see how they justify it. It's too far back for me to recall if Arlen Boats did allow it but seeing as it seems they have gone bust it's irrelevant.
  9. Wouldn't be surprised if they have gone bust. We hired Falcon about five years ago and their website then only had the previous years prices. We did get a reply from him though. We obviously hired a boat but it was very disappointing in its state when we got there. We have since been going on the Lancaster with Duck Island Boat Company and their boats are first class, I recommend them to you as they are in Garstang Marine.
  10. Most narrowboats have a draft of 2' or just over, and as the word says are about 6'10" wide. How wide is your boat.
  11. The Lancaster Canal. 42 miles of mostly wide lock free canal. Lovely countryside. Plenty of pubs and moorings by those. Carnforth can be tricky for mooring of a night, and also Lancaster itself although I've managed to get a space there three times arriving at about 3pm.
  12. How about 42 miles of lock-free canal, try the Lancaster Canal. its nice and wide through varying countryside. Plenty of small family hire firms on there.
  13. Narrowboats definitely moor in Salthouse Dock, the Albert Dock is used for yachts and other small boats.
  14. If you mean the Titanic, she was launched in Belfast although her home port was Liverpool as that is where the White Star Line had its headquarters.
  15. The hire company should have some information as to where you should be able to go to and how long it will take.
  16. Couldn't agree more. Well said.
  17. Why Not. Liverpool was voted the best port in the UK to visit, this by the thousands of cruise ship passengers that come here, and has been for a number of years. Hotels are still being built to cater for visitors who want to find out facts, not myths, about the city.
  18. At £75,000 its just over half the price of a decent terraced house in inner city Liverpool
  19. I watched a series of videos on Youtube last year on where the family - three adults anyway - hired a boat from Silsden for a week on the L&L. They seemed to enjoy it and the boat did look very respectable.
  20. Didn't Chris Grayling state a few weeks ago that HS2 won't go past Birmingham ?
  21. All I know is that in the 35 years I've lived in inner city Liverpool, I'm now 72, I have only one problem with crime and that is when someone broke into my shed to steal an old anorak I used for painting the outside of our semi. No problem with any of the cars parked outside. And I am not the only one. My cousin who lives down south, once told me a few years ago when she worked for the ONS , they collect data from the Police, Insurance companies, Utility firm etc etc. Yes, I understand about your point from people not bothering to report such matters, especially these days.
