Tunnel bands is a modern term for them. Since the 60s, I’ve always known them as counter bands. I don’t think the waterways press help in this respect, I’ve seen what I know as a stop beam referred to as a “ boatman’s beam” , likewise a cabin stool called a “ boatman’s stool”. Side doors called swan or duck hatches make me wince….

A fore cabin being called a “potters cabin” is my pet hate!

I cannot see where, if anywhere, you'd likely get a fully rebuilt GU motor boat (albeit not an original motor) which has been constructed to this exemplary high standard for anything approaching the price asked. A fully riveted starn end, wooden cabin, straight sides and a newly built far ended with all the boxes ticked for those 'traditionalists' who expect an 'as built' persona for any future 'shows'.

This is a bullet proof '(40+years)' investment that provides an opportunity for any seriously interested party whether it be as a live aboard or otherwise.

Any with any recent knowledge of how much these boats cost to re-build will know that James is absolutely spot on with his comments here.

This boat would interest me far more than any other Historic Boat that has been on the market recently as you can clearly see that the work has been done so well and will be a great base for a fully converted boat.

Other buyers are more concerned with the steelwork and the look of the shell. For these people, Steve Hudson, Ian Kemp, Graham Edgson etc all built for people with a picky eye for the look of their boat. Sadly all deceased now.

My Dad is still alive and kicking! As was Ian Kemp when I spoke to him last Christmas!

Please do it, you may think I’m not interested in reinventing the wheel, but I’m always interested in ideas that may work or not. Also remember that Ricky and any his crew have never owned a Narrowboat but are at the forefront of electrical propulsion and are producing ground braking boats. As shown at this years Crick show. So please just do it.

And they are also absolutely lovely guys that really care about their product.

Too much balance isn't good,  you lose the feedback- a bit like modern cars with overly light electric steering.

Boat builders like Sarah who posted earlier have a distinct advantage with such things,  they look at the hull of a nearby working boat.

You also have to consider that we are navigating a muddy ditch...

Not that I am saying I'm not for progress at all, I'm all for it. I just favour tried, tested and good quality.

This Epping has a cracked collar. Any suggestions for how to repair/replace?

    Many thanks

You’ll need to find yourself a friendly welder! It may be worth your while checking the smoke box when you have got the flue pipe off and also checking the top ring on the top plate as they are all prone to cracking.

That's good to hear. I guess I feel a bit uneasy still about the previous report - what's up with those 3mm readings? Confused if that's related to the chine or why that hasn't been talked about. The last insurance survey I looked at was much more optimistic than an older survey done for the same boat.

The 3mm part is the area that needs to be addressed in the works.

I believe the Little Wyrley Estate owns most of the land, and the basins and moorings, though I was told that some parts of the colliery site is in council hands. The large "office" block by the gate was recently the subject of a planning application when the council put it up for sale, planning was refused and I subsequently heard that the Little Wyrley Estate now also owned that part of the site.

This is my understanding too, and as Dave says, Dennis Cooper runs the moorings.

Is Epping a brand, or a style?

If it's a brand, we dont know if the stove in the OP is an Epping. It is merely "assumed" to be the "usual" Epping style stove.

If Sarah is great at Epping, the brand, but not at some of the other brands, she could be a wild goose chase?

So that the OP is not on a wild goose chase, here are the items I stock.

    Stoves & Stove Spares (nortoncanesboatbuilders.co.uk)

It's not an exhaustive list, I can get a variety of parts for Eppings, Classics, Premiers, Nippers and Class1C's.

Pleas read that in connection with the post it was in reply too. I fully agree that you are doing nothing under hand, you have put forward the survey and priced it to reflect condition, My reply was  to the interior which looks very good and doesn't reflect the condition of the rest of the boat. The comment was not about you selling it which you are very up front about. This was in no way a criticism of you or the owner, just pointing out how one part of a boat doesn't reflect the condition of the rest.

The post was not made to offend you

    Not a problem.

I just wanted to make it clear that it perhaps wasn't the best example of a "the seller never to be seen again😂" situation.
