  2. fact is you can't buy short cables any more, but if you buy a long cable you can cut it up and then offer short cables on the market. Who knows, someone on CWDF may be in the market for a short cable. .......... reminds me of a definition of pipes when I worked in the pipeline industry. pipes are made from solid round bars with a hole in the middle. if the diameter of the hole is less than the diameter of the bar, this is a pipe. if the diameter of the hole is greater than the diameter of the bar, this is fresh air. very short pipes were called washers. very long pipes had "LONG PIPE" marked on them with an arrow indicating the shortest way round. etc.

  7. wot he said if anyone doesn't like paying council tax indirectly or directly then don't: walk on footpaths, drive/ride on roads, place bags of rubbish in a convenient bin/skip (or dump it illegally), enjoy a public space, etc.

  11. If he had made a living will and his family were rational perhaps he would have been at rest long before now. But it is ridiculous to introduce that as a possible justification for not wearing a helmet when motor racing.

  13. if you drown on an inland waterway then other people will become involved. I had the inglorious job of assisting the lifting of a bloated corpse from the Humber many years ago. Not nice.
  14. Some of the reasons (excuses) for not wearing LJs reminds me of the refuseniks when car seat belts became compulsory. The roads are safer for drivers now. The same would apply for boats if LJs are compulsory. I do not wear one, but I have 2 on the boat in case I need to do something risky. They must have crutch straps. I had an accident with a flying windlass key that knocked me for six, luckily away from the lockside, but it was a deep lock and if I'd gone in I would have been in danger. An LJ would have saved me from drowning. If they became compulsory we would soon get used to them.
  15. earwigoagain Phylis Rachel NC - here is a challenge. Let us see if you can avoid posting on this thread. Call it a virtual bet for a bottle of 18 year-old malt.
