  1. I have a 400w system on my boat. 4x100w Monocrystaline panels and a 30 amp MPPT. 8x100ah batteries Even on a modest cloudy day, I can run the inverter, fridge, laptop all day without the State of Charge falling below 100% On a day like today (28 degrees full blue summer sky) I can run the washing machine or the dish washer on economy washes, again without the SOC dropping below 100% The washing machine and dishwasher are both hot fill, so you have to have hot water in the tank, obviously. All I am saying is that you will be suprised what you can get away with even on a 12v system. I fitted a system on a freinds boat last month with a Tracer 30a MPPT with remote panel (deffo needed) and it hasnt skipped a beat.
  2. I do think you are being economical with the actualite here. Wasn't your boat re-lined at your request and were informed that it would add a further six weeks to the build time? Perhaps you thought the lads at JD have a bucket of magic fairy dust that they sprinkle on the boat to make the nasty month and a half go away? Perhaps, for whatever reason the boat had this work carried out, you should have accepted that six weeks is 42 days and made provision for this.
  3. Just taken delivery of the latest BW survey for 2009. Some odd questions and some "lets use these answers, to back up some changes we have in mind" multi choices.
  4. I have a 913 and two 50 watt solar panels. At the moment its blowing around 10-15mph, which is usual here. I have just replaced my leisure batteries (5x110a/h). I find now, with the combination of the gen and the panels, I only have to run the engine for 20-40 mins a day for the Victron to go to "Float". All in all, the 913 is a great bit of kit, but I dont reckon you could use it as a sole energy provider, but I suppose it depends on your consumption.
  5. I'd go to a motor factors and get one. They are about the same price as a fuel filter. £1.50 inc.
  6. Take it apart. Easy. http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/6929/a190hdd7zc.jpg

    Mink

Under no circumstances use an air pistol on Mink. A head shot from a competant shooter using a full power (11ft/lbs) air rifle is a minimum requirement. You must have permission from the land owner, to shoot mink. They are however included on the DEFRA General licence for two reasons - Alien Species & Destructiveness/Depredation.
  8. Thanks for that. I'll see if I can get a diagram.
  9. Just as an aside, I use Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets bolted to a plastic plate. You get them out of old computer hard drives. They are about the size and thickness of a 50p piece, but will pull out stuff that weighs 3 times that of a windlass.
  10. Hi all. Just been given the above. Sadly its not giving out 240v. When its switched on to "Inverter", the fans spin up and off and the Inverter light is steady-on, but nothing at the output. All I have done, is just connected a single 12v battery, about 3/4 charged to the terminals. Will it work without a remote panel when switched to "Inverter On" or is this the problem? Ta

    mink

Thats the last thing responsible airgun users want.
  12. I agree with what you say. I just dont want to be another statistic because someone else cant be bothered.
  13. I used to have a Cobra, that any good?
  14. Blimey. A few weeks ago, a boat moored about a foot from my stern with a gas bottle tethered to its stern. Concerned about the safety of my boat, I asked the question on the previous thread. The usual suspects turned that thread into farce, so I let it go. Next, we have a boat 30 metres from my bow on fire. Hence the title of this thread "It was only a matter of time." It was only a matter of time, before some boat caught fire on this cut, probably un-insured , with the distinct possibility of taking other boats with it. That was my point. I know the couple well, in particular, It was me that called the ambulance when one of them tried to commit suicide. They have just taken ownership of the boat in the last week and brought it here. I'm pretty sure what caused the fire, but thats immaterial. All I asked, was there a minimal distance for safety, nothing more. I asked BW this morning and they said a metre but weren't sure. Doubtless the detectives on here, will dissect this post and try and pick more bones out of it and try to find stuff that isn't there.
  15. The owners told me after I asked if they were ok. They were being interviewed by the police at the time. First off, you dont know me and before you start I gave them the hospitallity of my boat, before they were picked up to go to other accomodation.
  16. I drive 2 tons of Toyota 4x4. Gives me the edge.
  17. I'd like my life not to be ended prematurely by the actions of others, ta very much.
  18. Now the argument has gone to moving boats...ffs Have you guys been on the pipe? I'll try and make it a tad simple. Boats moored with a decent space between them, so if anything untoward happens it reduces the risk to other moored vessels. ^ ^ Any problems with that?
  19. What have locks got to do with mooring? If you disagree with my point, say so and give a good argument against and 'll listen. Don't try and concoct some piss poor analogy. I'd sooner be pitied on an internet forum, than dead by someone elses selfish actions.
  20. Thats the idea. If you had a decent point to put across, I wouldn't give you any "abuse". You have no point, you still keep referring to blocks of flats, ceilings, floors, flats... If you want to moor inches away, thats up to you me owd duck.
  21. The boat in question had no insurance, as I mentioned earlier. What would the HSE say?
  22. Ahh, one of the pissing contestants. What in all thats holy, has terraced houses got to do with all of this? Blocks of flats?? household?? I live on a boat next to other narrowboats with 10 feet between. In case you hadn't noticed, this is a boating forum not the Bradford and Bingley.
