  1. Try filling a 100 litre inboard tank on a 6.5m boat on a trailer? "You have to remove the tank from the boat while you fill it" In the end, we backed up slightly, said loudly "At least lets fill the tow vehicle" and surreptitiously passed the hose up into the bow of the boat.
  2. Could have been a licence issued by Microsoft to a large company. Company "Y" pays "X" Thousand pounds for a site licence and gets a single licence code which always authenticates. At some point, an employee knocks off a copy and lends it to his mate. Registration works fine at first until Microsoft wake up and "About your site licence. Did you know you've got a couple of thousand employees working off site?" - Company "Y" then has to re-register (and update all the computers it really has) and MS mark the leaked activation code as bad.
  3. I bought a pair of http://www.amazon.com/Original-S-W-A-T-Mens-Classic-Side/dp/B007RLD0DO following a similar discussion on this forum last year. Seem to do the trick but as others have said, some surfaces NOTHING will get a grip on! The side zip is handy when trying to get the boots off before the dog spreads his muddy paws over all the internal furnishings after a relaxing (for him) walk
  4. This has just re-surfaced on Facebook as the closing date for comments regarding planning permission is 14th December 2017. However, having commented, Facebook has obligingly hidden the link (presumably as I've viewed it once and it's giving me "new" news)!

  7. Although "repair the wall" will draw comments of what's wrong with it; the clarification is that the wall is in one piece but moving!
  8. Some UK delivery vans (and road sweeping vehicles) are LHD for the same reason.

  11. "Alexa, turn the page"...... "Alexa...... show me the grease nipple" I knew there was a use for voice control somewhere (just not anywhere near me please!)

  14. This morning - broadside across canal and held by one rope on an aft cleat. With the kind donation by a canal side resident of some baler twine; re-secured as best possible. Now sports an envelope from C&RT...

  16. If you own, or know who owns 119316 believed to be named "Whole Lotta Rosie" and moored on the Grand Union you might want to check / ask them to check mooring lines. I've re-tied as best I can without having spare rope of my own.
  17. I can think of numerous examples where this has not been the case, ranging from canal facilities to churches via public houses and greyhound stadiums...
  18. As I said - I'm not asking you to complain; I'm asking you to read and do what you think fit (and, as others have observed, restoration as housing might be preferable to falling into the canal...)
  19. Mods - please delete if inappropriate or move if in wrong place. Attached is a request from Marple Local History Society. I'm not telling (or even asking) you to respond as requested but please read and do as you see fit. Apart from the points raised, I have two concerns (I grew up in Marple from 1971 to 1984 and still visit roughly monthly) The mooring space for New Horizons; the trip boat for the less able bodied is being much reduced. I remember this boat being launched by Prince Charles and surely those less fortunate than us deserve a decent space to board, not shoved into a corner. If this development goes ahead I give it six months before the new residents apply to CRT to stop those "obnoxious boaters" making use of the mooring rings opposite our nice new home. The fact that people have moored there for decades will not matter; I don't want to look out of my house and see boaters who have just conquered Marple flight tied up while they do a little shopping, let alone visit the Ring o'bells just beyond the next bridge. 170908 Newsletter v3.0 .pdf
  20. I think the right hand wall is visibly bowed (and it's not just a distortion in the lens) As Cheshire Cat says, there are sinkholes by the ladder, one can be seen between the orange mesh and the white bollard (and on several other locks in the flight as well...) I
