  1. This sounds interesting as I don't always want to leave urine in the bowl, but am also loathe to use a full flush cycle to empty the bowl*. Do you have a wiring diagram for this, you could post here? or a longer description and/or photos to better explain what you've done. *My solution at the moment is to put a small amount of water in a jug and empty that into the loo, switch off the water pump and then press the flush sequence. The solenoid opens, but no water enters the bowl and then the macerator operates to empty the bowl.
  2. As a final comment on this thread. I've received a reply from the manufacturer and they have said that it will not work with a syphon. I also thought about the comments made in relation to the BSS. I originally only considered these in relation to the plastic T-piece sold with the kit, I have since looked a bit more closely at the actual sensor/sending unit and am not convinced that this is fire resistant and would therefore be a BSS fail. So back to the good old dip-stick.
  3. Thanks to both Tony & JonestheNuke, when I said there wasn't a 'clear opinion' I meant that at that time arguments had been made to support the level being read at both A & B. Both of your explanations however have helped clarify the issue to my 'lay' mind, to the extent that I will probably buy one. Also as stated above I hadn't considered whether the engine running may make a difference, but thinking about it the gauge I use for my fresh water tank (Which is an MSC one and is placed between the tank and the pump, but no syphon is involved) also uses hydrostatic pressure and drops to zero when a tap is turned on and the pump is running. Unfortunately, no. Thanks again to everyone for the comments and the advice, all very helpful.
  4. Hi, Everyone Thank you for the responses, but unfortunately there is not a clear opinion whether the gauge measures at level A or B so I'm not much further forward. For Ex-Brummie the manufacturers website https://www.lskelectronics.com/fuelgaugepro1 refers to it as a hydrostatic measuring device. For those who mentioned the BSS requirements although it is sold with a plastic T-piece, if I purchase it I would of course use a metal T-piece. For those who mentioned the inaccuracy whilst the engine was running, thank you that hadn't occurred to me, but as I measure now (with the stick) when the engine is not running there would be no difference (apart from dragging the stick out from the engine bay, unlocking the fuel cap, inserting the stick, wiping the stick clean and then putting the stick away). The kit can be purchased in the UK https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/fuel-gauge-lsk-fuelgaugepro1_15892000 (and as as Ex-Brummie says it is marketed for a motor bike or scooter where the take off is at the base of the tank), but at £140+ I'm reluctant to buy it unless I'm sure it will measure accurately the contents of the tank and not be affected by the height of the syphon pipe. I have written to the manufacturer about the issue, but so far I've not received a reply. Thanks again for the replies.
  5. Other than a wooden dip stick I don't have fuel gauge for my boat. I'm reluctant to fit one retrospectively because I don't want to drill a hole in the fuel tank. I recently came across a fuel gauge that measures the height of the fuel hydrostatically and is fitted into the fuel pipe (See diagram below). I don't know much about hydrostatics, but I understand that the pressure at the bottom of the fuel tank relates to the height of the fuel above it and if you know the measurements of the tank then the amount of fuel in the tank can be calculated. My fuel pipe, like most others, exits the fuel tank at a higher level than the actual fuel level and because the engine is lower than the tank a syphon effect causes the fuel to flow to the engine. My knowledge of syphons is also limited, but I understand that for a syphon to work the pressure at the top of the tube is zero. What I'm not sure about is whether the gauge/sender unit will measure the pressure of the fuel at level A or at the height of Level B in the diagram below. I'm hoping there is someone here who knows about both hydrostatic measurement and the effect a syphon might have on the measurement.
  6. Definition of 'Woke' - a person who is aware of and actively attentive to forms of oppression and injustice, especially issues of discrimination. Anti-woke is therefore someone who doesn't give a monkeys about other people or how their owns action/comments may offend them. I did complain about the joke advert, but the response from the moderator was worthy of those who defended 1970's racist comedians, a bit disappointing really for a board I've always considered as being run by sensible people.
  7. This fake Specsavers advert is not funny it is racist and should be removed.
  8. How does making us use white diesel instead of red reduce CO2 emissions?
  9. I am confused about the HMRC/Government's attitude here. The EU proposed these changes many years ago and the HMRC/Government have spent countless hours and resources fighting them and delaying the changes. Whilst that was happening the Government was arguing that we should leave Europe so that we could take back control. We've now left Europe, but instead of saying we've been fighting this for years we are now in control so let's just forget it and carry on as normal. They now seem intent on pushing through something they've been fighting against for years, what was the point of 'taking back control'?
  10. If this is implemented then the only change will be that the duty element will be deducted from the price we pay instead of being added to it, which is what happens now.
  11. I think your problem was the propeller rather than the BT.

  13. I don't know about St John's, but aren't Lifeboat crews & Fire personal retained? and therefore paid a retainer, so not really comparable.
  14. Thanks for the extra info. My Google search took me to Beta's American website which obviously doesn't need to cover narrow boats. I'll have to up my research skills.
  15. The current prop is 18"x12" as recommended by Beta for a 43, (Incidentally Beta recommend a 16"x 8" for the 38). I don't know if it was changed, but the owner's manual, which has the orginal 38 listed does list the propeller as 18"x12". So you may be right and it struggled because of the propeller, all I know is that once the 43 was fitted the handling of the boat, not just the power, improved.
  16. My boat is 57' and was new. It was originally specified with a Beta Marine 38 and I asked for a 43 to be installed instead, mainly for the odd occasion when we would be on a river. Unfortunately my request to upgrade the engine didn't make it to the factory floor (but the accounts department knew and invoiced accordingly). There was no problem getting the builder to accept they had made a mistake and retrofit the 43, but for various reasons (some of them my choice) it did take about 9 months before it could be done. Once the 43 was fitted and I could compare it to the 38 the difference it made to the handling of the boat was, to me, a significant improvement. I had thought hard about paying for the larger engine and if I hadn't had and used the 38 I think at the back of my mind I would always have wondered if spending the extra money was worthwhile. Having had experience of both engines I am pleased I upgraded to the 43.
