Without wishing to get into a long and protracted discussion  where two parties have differing views

I would like to make a couple of points

    1. The use of Rye Harbour / Anglia and Medway are fairly irrelevant as they are not mainstream waterways

    2. The disparity on licencing costs I agree will have to be a mediated and balanced settlement but why should the owner of a pair of boats pay 2 x that of an equivalent wide beam

When the current licencing policy was introduced there were not the nuber of wider than narrow craft on the water than now , so a fair and balanced solution is to find a balance point between revenue and style of boat

The EA (THames) policy is in my opinion a fair one but those who own widebeams will say its unfair

No win win here for anyone as we will end up paying more to whichever licencing authority we are bound to

That sounds fair however a lot of people have bought sensibly beamed boats that have always been licensed by length on BW waterways or CART if you like so to suddenly up the anti possibly quite considerably would I believe be unreasonable to peoples budgets. Same applies that if you buy two narrowboats the licencing will have been in force before you bought them and obviously understood the costs. Boats for instance on the Thames as we all know are licensed on area covered but to suddenly do that on CART waters would put the prices up prohibitively to some super " Historic " boats such as on the Trent.

I understand that completely Tim.. but as you will agree there are x % more wides now than ever and I like many others do feel that the price should be proportionate

  3. Murflynn .. to correct you .. HMI did not "drop it" Isuzu (Japan) stopped manufacture of that engine base due to worldwide emission regulations

At that point there was no other viable Isuzu based engine for the UK inland market

All three directors of the Marine division of HMI resigned and formed Engines Plus to market another viable alternative

they still have source on spares etc from Isuzu

Good guys and they talk the talk... well apart from Hedley ( sic) but that will cost me a pint no doubt
