  1. He’s just had the engine serviced so whoever did it should of bled the system, unless it wasn’t done properly and I doubt the OP has the experience to bleed it if required. With the snippets of info he has given it suggests a fuel problem. He can’t remove the fuel cap to check and dip the tank, so we wait for the next instalment once he’s visited the boat. Hopefully his battery will be fully charged as not to add to the starting problem.
  2. Just make sure your battery is fully charged before cranking the engine.
  3. Was it cranking over or just dead? Any smoke? If cranking over was it slow or normal speed? You need to put on more info instead of snippets
  4. Is the engine turning over when the key is turned, any smoke coming from exhaust? Is the fuel leaver switched on from fuel tank? what engine is it?
  5. With a hex key the same shape as the hex recess in the cap, put it in and turn anti-clockwise, bingo cap removed. Then reverse the process to put back on.
  6. I thought this was a wind up, with the fuel cap question and what looks like the engine stop pulled out😂😂
  7. Read “The Poachers Cook Book” and there were a few nice looking recipes for Pike, didn’t fancy the Carp ones though🎣
  8. I think the OP is only interested in River Cruisers/GRP’s not Narrowboats. As he is mentioning Viking, Dawncraft, Highbridge.
  9. I take it your just interested in River cruisers, GRP’s and not conventional narrowboats? So not to fill the Post with irrelevant information your not after.
  10. No, be helpful and let us know these Brokers so sellers are aware of it. People put a simple questions on here about paperwork and straight away you go on and on about the RCD and now it will also be the PCA, it’s becoming the Norm. As I say, be useful and give us a list of RCD/PCA demanding Brokers.
  11. Once again your trying to scare monger with the RCD, please give the names of these brokers that you are saying require a RCD before they will sell a boat. Now your saying Brokers are requiring a PCA to sell. Yes New builds less the 5 years I would expect some form of RCD, but come on a 15 year old boat. You and I know the majority of inland boats do not have a confirming RCD.
  12. Thorne lock closed from 4th April to 23rd May. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/19516-thorne-lock-stainforth-and-keadby-canal
  13. Don’t know when your planning the trip, but just seen a stoppage notice. Thorne lock on the Stainforth & Keadby closed from 4th April till 23rd May for gate replacement. So no movement South-North or North-South till complete. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/19516-thorne-lock-stainforth-and-keadby-canal
  14. Anyway, back to your dilemma. Have they made a completely new rudder assembly or just welded the old shaft back together? A photo would be good?
  15. Does this guy run a small yard at Thorne?
  16. I think sometimes when people get work done on their boat they are too friendly with the engineer/fitter. They often have met the person before and are inquisitive of how they’re doing the job. They offer him cups of tea, food and engage in friendly family, world and daily life questions and conversations. This leads to the engineer/fitter being distracted from the job in hand and sometimes complacency and forgetfulness as to what stage he’s at, leading to minor mistakes. It would be better if the owner left the boat to leave the workman to the task in hand. That said a good engineer would check everything off before leaving the task or maybe there’s some customers/boats they can’t wait to get away from😂
  17. I thought they might of considered this too, with the previous owner having to cut and re-weld the shaft to remove and replace it for previous work on the stern. I can’t see that anything has changed with the geometry of the skeg and through tube, that now would make the shaft fit from below. Or am I missing something that I’ve not read???
  18. I thought the whole idea of moving your boat was to take it to a place to get the repair done there? The reason why the rudder was cut and re-welded according to the previous owner was that it couldn’t be inserted from below due to the skeg and not achieving the clearance angle. This has been mentioned previously, with the weld breaking hence your dilemma. Can the rudder now be inserted from below when before it could not?
  19. Yes, but I’m sure the previous owner couldn’t do this due to the skeg and not being able to get the angle, hence the cut and re-weld of the shaft that snapped causing this dilemma. So thought they might use a cup/socket with a 2 part shaft? With the amount of rain we had lately I imagine the canal would be quite full and not low. Maybe she can put a photo of the repair on and description of how they’re going to do it, to save speculation as everyone is curious.
  20. Too Shallow for what? To get the boat out of the water? I thought it might be easier to get the rudder back on if the boat was on the bottom in Shallow water, if it could be replaced whilst in water.
  21. That was last year when it was a major stoppage. I think one of the problems is that it is a shortcut/link into and out of the town centre and is often used by too heavy vehicles causing damage. Not just a CaRT problem but also a Council problem too.
  22. I was going on the previous post, not knowing the area. But since you know the area. Would it, as the post suggests Displace 550 boats? Are the areas effected that big or that congested?
  23. 👍 Maybe a sign of the Young Boaters, who don’t want to get their hands dirty with a little self help and 10 minutes real graft. As could damage their hands and may effect their grip on their gaming control or their touch screen iPad sensitivity 😱
  24. May-Day, May-Day, May-Day, I have a Sinking feeling that it May be extended again😂
  25. @peterboat how’s it going down there? Do you still think it will be open 1st April? Or is that just foolish thinking🤔
