  1. BBC2 Program “Paul Whithouse: Our Troubled Rivers” highlighting it now 💩💦🎣 Interesting, just been discussing the micro plastic balls used for Shot Blasting, a major cause of plastics in the river, as just washed down the drains.
  2. Land & Water did extensive dredging last summer around the Knottingly area, I don’t know how effective it will be now?
  3. The lock had a big overhaul with new Gates last year and was heavy delayed with unforeseen issues, console and new electrical system being one, from what I was told by the guys on the ground. I know the consoles are new and more user friendly and I’m sure both gates open as one now, unlike before(but in my mind I’m still seeing/operating the old console😂) As I said the volunteer Keith is there most days in season and is very well thought of by CaRT and the local community and when not the other volunteer Paul is there. So it’s a lot easier to get through without getting off the boat. It would make sense to have the gates opening as one as in would stop chunks being taken out of the mitre of the closed one, causing damage/leaks and I’m sure CaRT put something out last year for boaters to open both gates on locks to prevent this.
  4. I can’t remember if you can still operate the gates independently, since they fitted the new lock gates, as I know one of the delays was in fitting the new electric console operating system, every time I have come through recently there’s always been a volunteer on and both gates have been opened when in use and I’m sure when I’ve opened them for people they came in with both gates open, minds gone blank. Will find out next weekend when I go through. Must be one of the best manned locks around,
  5. @Alway Swilby seams both of us are thinking Princess but typing Pride. Pride still carrying oil as far as I’m aware and last I seen was Sept/Oct.
  6. Yes sorry it ‘s the old Humber Princess which has been converted to gravel. Post amended 😂 I know I pass the Pride quite often, as I say last time I chatted to them they were saying CaRT are really messing them about with running hours/ timings and withdrawn manning the locks out of their working hours, so will be interesting to see if CaRT give their full support to this venture.
  7. Well you don’t, your querying the fish topic that you’ve put posts on.🎣🎣
  8. You know there was, here’s the Post. It’s the old Humber Princess, Lets see if it’s financially viable as last time I talked to the the tanker crew they said CaRT had put a lot of restrictions on them with regards to load and running hours.
  9. That’s what I thought and it works out at 24 hours a day for 297 years. It’s the only River quoted like this, but can’t work out what the figure is calculated from????
  10. I’m not going to get into a bun fight about this, as I’m sure we have better things to do. Have a good weekend Jack👍 Who mentioned speed? They get a lot of boats through that’s it, some days more than others.
  11. Not interested with your Vlockie/CaRT bashing stories. The ones that help out at Thorne lock are polite and helpful getting lots of boats through, that’s all that matters.
  12. How am I calling you a liar? As others say ask the lock keepers and they laugh? How do you know what experience I have, how do I know what experience you have? You keep saying you went down backwards as I said there’s no need as it’s a deep Cill lock, so obviously you don’t know everything, just like myself and everyone on here there’s always more to learn on the canals. Just because you say you did a few years in the Navy and lived on a boat a while doesn’t make you an expert and everyone else incompetent on a boat.
  13. The lock’s often manned quite regularly with Volunteers. Maybe you should go and ask the lock keepers and see what reaction you get, as others have done when passing through. I honestly don’t know why you come on here, as you don’t offer any real advice which is current and when your put right, like telling you 70ft boats could use Goole & Selby, you start being contentious gordding for arguments, same as the majority of Threads you go on. Why not just stick to Caravan Forums where your knowledge could be helpful and informative and your posts more constructive?
  14. I do know it, but I also know CaRT lock keepers when manning a lock, you have to book passage through, as in Keadby will not let a boat longer then their stated lock length through.
  15. Probably more likely as CaRT lengths from their site are nowhere near 70ft, so I doubt he would of got in at Keadby. I’ve had a boat for the last 14 years as you have been told many times, I travel they system and move boats for people. I even passed you at Sprotborough. I’m afraid it’s you that’s boatless after you decided it wasn’t for you as you couldn’t justify the expense. See below for CaRTs length for the S&K. It’s all irrelevant anyway as the OP’s boat is 72ft.
  16. And here’s me thinking he knew the area. Not really worth worrying about, lots of big locks for him to get around the area, without having to go corner to corner.
  17. Anyone know what’s the relevance with the hours are and how the figures were calculated? River Fal: The Fal has suffered immensely from discharges of raw sewage. It was reported last year that sewage was pumped into the Fal for more than 2.6 million hours in 2021. The Fal is famous as the home of Fal oysters.
  18. Same here I take no notice of you, as most times your touting for arguemens like you do with so many on here.
  19. As the previous poster said ask about it and all you get is a laugh from the lock keeper. I’m sure many have asked and had the same reaction.
  20. How am I calling you a liar. Sorry salty dog,
  21. There is another 70ft in the area, moored at Tulley’s Rotherham, “The West Wing” maybe @peterboat knows which way it got there? Yes as they haven’t got a boat, like a lot on here and think they know the canals by watching YouTube on THE Internet 👍😂
  22. Yes that’s the same reaction I get when I take my 61’5” through.
  23. Most of the electric locks with watch tower on the Yorkshire navigation are not booked in advance and are normally self operating. The locks which need pre booking for passage are the locks at Keadby, West Stockwith, Torksey and Cromwell for moving on the River Trent. Also the Locks at Selby and Naburn for passage to and from York basically. They usually require at least 24hr notice. Worth knowing the lock light signal system when your moving, as sometimes the electric locks are manned through the day😀👍
  24. A lot would dispute this these days, even the lock keepers that man it.
  25. He’ll be buying a 2nd hand diesel boat, so not a new build, so he’ll be the same as the majority, which at a guess something like 95% of boaters on the canal with a diesel propulsion boat.
