  1. I have the DVD set of FOG - from 2017. The original footage required a special projection system.
  2. The Bargee and Painted Boats are available from Amazon surely? BTW The Bargee also features a youngish Ronnie Barker - amazing guy.
  3. The original Radio Ballad "Cry from the Cut" is here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/if6pooiimov6l2u/BBC_Midland_Home_Service_-_Cry_From_The_Cut.mp3 https://www.mediafire.com/file/tnvxzh64l2np0ce/BBC_Midland_Home_Service_-_Cry_From_The_Cut.txt Further details can be found here: https://www.cpatrust.org.uk/bham_ballads/ This mentions Sister Mary Ward. Eamon Andrews did a "This Is Your Life" about her. I wonder if the programme still exists &/or if its in the public domain. It would be good if someone could liaise with the Beeb Archives to get this out on a DVD compilation. That's great - thank you.
  4. Another pseudo film: "A Cry From The Cut" ...
  5. Whilst this is not really a film it is on YouTube - I laugh at it every time I play it, and you have to use your knowledge of canals, narrowboats, and imagination to understand all the nuances.
  6. We have a somewhat muffled sound track to: https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/9d4d8f8c3e84469c9e71b92cf5427a37 BBC 1 North West: Ballad of the Northwest: The Cheshire Bowmen - a folk ballad But we'd like the full programme video and (cleaner) audio!!
  7. Don't forget a search on Genome ... https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?adv=0&q=waterways#search https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?adv=0&q=canals#search https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?adv=0&q=narrow+boats#search etc. You might find references to other films at: http://waterwaysongs.info/ Email Ian at: ian@waterwaysongs.co.uk
  8. More of an abusive cult based upon the principle of "if you don't believe what we believe then we can destroy your property, beat you up, or kill you." Now-a-days there's quite a few like that.
  9. Clicking on the link will display a great image of the horse drawn boat and said horse.
  10. Judging by events in the USA - such as in Portland, NYC, et al - its an excuse for intolerance, violence, rioting, and thuggery; and a lack of personal responsibility towards the community.
  11. Britain's oldest horse-drawn barge which once featured in Coronation Street is forced to stop river trips after owner clashed with 'snowflake' canal users who accused her of animal cruelty * Jenny Roberts has run a successful river trip business on her horse-pulled barge boat Iona for 35 years * But 'woke' canal users on the River Wey in Surrey have accused her of 'animal cruelty' towards the horses * Has also suffered a dangerous increase in people paddle boarding waterways and overcrowding footpaths * She says 'snowflakes' have forced her to close her company and retire her three horses early * She has loaned boat to Tiverton Canal Company, whose boss Philip Brind has also received 'woke comments' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8681421/Oldest-horse-drawn-barge-forced-stop-river-trips-clashes-snowflake-canal-users.html ====

  13. Not sure where to put this. Yesterday's "Flog It!" was a repeat from 2016. It was filmed in Northampton / Market Harborough. There was a fascinating 9 min segment about the canals and an interview with a wonderful lady who was but born, lived and worked on the canals. On iPlayer is it here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b8lzz1/flog-it-series-15-reversions-episode-2 Or WeTransfer it is here (for 5 days): https://we.tl/t-WKtR5YTOSn The canal bit is from 23:00 to 32:00

  16. There are some old films of canals and narrow boats on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=canals Also there are a host of old films for free viewing at the BFI ... https://player.bfi.org.uk/search/free?q=canals CJB
  17. If you Google search "The Narrow Boat Men" it appears that there might have been a DVD issued some years ago. Also it appears that this was ripped and pirated onto obscure torrent sites. Its not on Youtube. And the DVD is not on Amazon or eBay. My suggestion is to email the various specialist online shops dealing in canals. Chris B.
  18. Yesterday evening BBC Inside Out did a feature on the canal safety around Manchester. It was really interesting to see the lack of comments made by the Canal and River Trust and Manchester City Council. It was very disappointing to see the comments made by Peel Holding who REFUSED to implement ANY safety measures along the stretch of the Bridgewater Canal where Casper Blackburn died despite the inquest suggesting if safety measures such as CCTV, lighting etc were put into place that the death could have been prevented. Nick Pope (Charlie’s dad) is also interviewed discussing the campaign so it’s really worth watching. 20. Remembrance Countryfile Countryfile marks Remembrance Sunday. Ellie Harrison finds out about the so-called 'Idle' women of the canals, who played a vital role in the Second World War. She also discovers how the great outdoors helps to heal servicemen and women. John Craven explores how wild plants became medicine during the Second World War. Plus Adam Henson visits a school where farming is helping to shape lives. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09g8qn0 Idle Women (image) On the towpath of the Grand Union Canal in Stoke Bruerne, Ellie meets poet Heather Wastie and actress Kate Saffin - a dramatic duo who through their canal-side performances, keep alive the memory of the ‘Idle Women’. These female volunteers answered a Government advert and stepped up to ‘man’ the barges. Named after the IW on their Inland Waterways badges, these women were anything but idle, Ellie learns how they operated the hefty locks as well as loading and unloading hundreds of tons of vital supplies. 21. Sorry about the inaccurate bio. details for some of the informants. Perhaps these links are better: BBC TV Series (1969–1977) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2337731/?ref_=nm_flmg_slf_1 This has bios. of the main cast members. Then there are these links ... * Leslie Morton: "Leslie Morton was born in Birkenhead in 1896. When aged 13, he served as an apprentice on a square rigger, the Beeswing, in which capacity he had sailed six times round Cape Horn . By the time of the First World War he had moved to modern ocean liners, and was an able seaman on the Lusitania on that critical day of May 7, 1915, when it was sunk by torpedo off Ireland."
