  1. I have just fitted a new multi-fuel stove on our narrowboat, replacing a Morso Squirrel, which worked very well on both wood and coal (Supertherm) until getting to the stage where it was easier to replace than repair. The new stove is a Parkray 4 multifuel. Nothing has changed about the installation; the flue length and size is the same as on the Morso. However, the stove burns wood perfectly well, but only burns coal - also Supertherm as before - very slowly. The problem seems to be related to the draw of the stove - there is plenty of bottom air. What experience does anyone have of increasing the draw? I have seen increasing the length of the flue, which will be tried at the weekend with a longer chimney and also seen rotary chimney cowls. Do they work?
  2. I have a couple of potential entries. A few years ago, just after the tunnel on the T&M but before Rugeley going North, there was a small fibreglass cruiser called R Swipe. Ten years or so ago at Barbridge there was a shortish narrowboat called "All day breakfast" which I considered to be strange, although if you like breakfast then I suppose it could be a simile for something nice?
  3. No-one seems to have mentioned the Shroppie yet - top of my list, atmospheric and love the less used part from Nantwich to Chester Second for me - South Oxford, love the summit, bend after bend going nowhere in particular Third Staffs and Worcs especially south of Autherley to Kiddy Fourth - the vastly underrated Middlewich branch Fifth - Grand Union, which has some sort of business-like aspect to it which I like. Nicest south of Braunston? Finally an honourable mention for the BCN, done the challenge a couple of times and the feel of seeming remoteness in an urban area is something I like. Feels like you're really under the skin of the place.....
