  1. Thanks all, will amend to include real running costs and fuel costs etc. We've had it advertised for around 5 months now with no real luck.
  2. Evening boaters I'm after some advice, we are moored on Gloucester and Sharpness canal system and have a cruiser which we use on the canal and river severn, and sometimes go out in to the channel etc for entry to Bristol. Anyway, we have been advertising for a 3rd member of the boat share we operate (informally) and are having no luck. I've advertised on apolloduck, in local marinas, on the boat itself but there is not much interest. I'd welcome any ideas or pointers to where we should be looking to get someone interested. We cannot afford (justify) keeping 50% each as we don't get enough use of it with real life often getting in the way. Hopefully someone will have an idea (or even better know someone in the South West who wants a 3rd of a cruiser! Cheers, James
  3. Yes I'm pretty sure it does although there are one or two stretches between swing bridges where you could open it up a tad more. I'm assuming the river Severn etc doesn't have the same speed restrictions.
  4. Thanks. I'm not sure how much to gamble given that the Gloucester and sharpness canal is very wide. There are other 30ft cruisers moored but I've not seen them navigate yet. Annoyingly we cannot reliably use the severn given cost to exit at sharpness combined with tide times.
  5. Hi again. Thank you for the previous welcomes and advice. I decided to decline the bayliner and look elsewhere. I've now seen a sealine 290. Its for the g and s canal and the river Severn / avon at bristol canal. The model is twin diesel and may be more suited to canal handling. Had any on here owned or used this model and are they ok at low speeds? No holding tank at the moment so will need to get that fitted for canal use. As before very grateful for any advice. Thanks Jim
  6. Cheers. I have seen better value for boats being sold of of the US. Are there any issues with getting a used boat shipped to the UK? I assume insurance etc still all ok?
  7. Thanks, can I assume that I could get a 285 and use it reliably without the need to ever have shore power? Will hot water work if the engine is running? Thanks,
  8. Thanks for all your comments. I have discovered my mooring won't have shore power, and the G&S canal ain't great for power access. To that end, is the Bayliner likely to be restricted to charging batteries whilst motoroing, and only then, for 12V devices? Trying to learn quickly!
  9. Many thanks for all of the feedback, we will try and find a Bayliner 285. If anyone is selling one near Gloucestershire or Bristol please let me know! Thanks, James
  10. Thanks for the reply. I've seen Bridge 83 (Hungerford Station Road) on the Avon is quite low as well, with a height of 3.10/3.7m it could be tricky. Grateful for any extra advice. All new and very exciting but don't want to make a huge mistake...!
  11. I am looking getting a Bayliner 285 as a cabin cruiser. I know the beam is 10ft and it won't win prices for clearance. Would it still be able to do River Severn and Glouceser/Sharpness canal? I am also hoping it could dart down the Severn and join the Avon via Bristol. Am I right in thinking that the Avon has sufficient clearance/width&height to cater for such a gin palace?
  12. Thanks for your reply. Do C&RT enable folk with leisure moorings to engage in commercial activities?
  13. Hi there Very new to the forum, a leisure mooring has become available on the Gloucester and Sharpness canal near our home. I'd like to buy a boat and trade from it on weekends, e.g. cafe or bar or sell ice cream etc. Is this reasonable or likely? I cannot find anything that says it won't be permitted but would require authorisation? There are also nearby residential moorings who may well object? Grateful for any advice on this matter as the auction closes in 2 days Thanks in advance, Jim
