    Rocker covers

If you wanted "belt & braces"you could seal the gaskets to the cyl head with some thing like Hylomar & leave the rocker cover side with a very light grease smear future removal should leave the gasket intact on the head The trinity house Jk/s lighthouse generators were so treated
  4. I think you need to be a bit closer to the point Experience ,Beer/tea & grub or do you require pay/travel expenses How long each stint etc Do you smoke ,

  7. Looking at the OP photo if you wish the rubber boot? whatever to fix to the swans neck & cover the bearing housing wouldn't the peg a 20pas t in the photo stop the "boot" from moving with the moving parts ? Or am I not seeing it correctly
  8. Cars in photo BMC(Austin A55 Firina Wolseley 450 or 680 would make it late 50s or into early 60s i remember "Joeys""empty & loaded coal being moved /unloaded when passing to demise of BW long distance carrying in 63 didn't pass for several years around 67? & not sure if it was non operational buildings still there ISTR
  9. Can I ask if you have a hull with no fold/taper in sides original base plate 6' 10"or there abouts wide & you extended base plate put your 20mm wear bar that takes the OA widt h to 10 mm/3/8" under 7'(sorry for the metric /imp mix )have you every had problems as this makes it the widest pat of the boat& possibly wider than the built as new beam (Thinking in terms of some of the banana locks)
  10. Correct what Matty said problem with roof is you are not in dropping over bitts range wih side deck ropes If you can find a good photo from lock side looking down on boat in empty lock you will see the best set up for French system certain canals have a good #of commercial boats
  11. Looking at the web page/specs of your boat (Tidy Job) with the narrow side decks you might experience more difficulty getting around than the style designed for European water ways just a thought worth checking
  12. If /when the UK leaving the EU finally gets sorted dependent on the out come it may be more difficult to live your dream as I've heard rumblings the visa time limit may be limited to 6months when the time come suggest you have it all sorted before making plans to get the boat over here & beware the french are great believers in having 14 sheets of paper when 1 will do the job hope you can realise your dream but sort very carefully before committing & bare in mind the " Marie " is all power full
  13. LIly 20hp bolinder with GB The Seffle in LILy when I had her was "leccy "glow plug heating about 1to 2 mins the unit is now in "Severn "but don't know if Jem has kept the heating &/or air/compression start Owl in Seffle days before the Kelvin Some of the Alvcote fleet Bolinders "Cranes' motor
  14. I was always of the understanding that the trough sections were made so that they could fit either way There is a aqueduct at Braire similar in design & construction ith the same material for gaskets " twix"sections
  15. ISTR that the requirements for maintenance crew cabs required more space to accommodate the sink cooker etc the cabin hadn't the space & it would have meant building extra cabin & splitting the crew set up .It was found if the power uint was positioned as far back as poss part of the cabin could along with engine "ole"give the required space for crew fittings I guess costed out it was cheaper/better than cabin alteration /modification some one probably came up with drawings/specs of the "Severners "
  16. Not sure if it's a requirement or just an op extra the two passed labs & the present one all ex rescue Had a #tattooed on the inside of their right ear /along with being chipped ISTR it was a required entry on the French paper of owners details Some of the Chassz(hunt dogs are erring to wearing a sort of tabard in Orange rather than a orange collar as there have been cases of them getting caught up
  17. Looks a bit long for for a milk tin could well be one of the catering size fruit/veggie cans
  18. IIRC there was a panic in around 67 that some railings were rotted dislodged I remember several pieces of the rebar sheet used in concrete floors being fixed over the offending railings they disappeared after a time so assume the problem was fixed it's a shame if it becomes closed to boats as they are not reliant on the railings after all there's not much protection on the off side
