  1. Hi Martin I cant take all the credit as i was led by the hand by a very good experienced welder, he'd never attempted a boat before but helped me through brilliantly. Also some welding takes on its own artistic appearance, can anybody see anything more than a weld in the Picture? My wife could and turned the photo into a picture canvas. Springer
  2. Hi I replated my old springer with 6mm on the hull (shallow v) and 4mm up to the rubbing strake, blooming hard work. well done Martin keep up the good work, i shan't be doing another!!!! we need good fabricators/welders like yourself. Couple of photos in progression and a near complete new springer. Springer NB Alakefic
  3. ......common sense, care and the advice of a decent professional marine electrician is all you require!!!!!!!!!
  4. Hi J Smileypete is spot on, trace the cabling back and you should come across an inline fuse connected straight to the battery + before the main battery isolator, if the boat has been messed with then maybe something has caused this fuse to blow! hope this helps.
  5. Hi stegra, I have just finished renovating my NB and used sy for the AC electrical, i used 3 core sy and bonded the braid at 1 end only as this is required for the cable protection, if you use a cable gland and strip the outer clear pvc back about 6 inches you can then sleeve this with yellow/green sleeving and terminate either at the socket outlet or in the consumer unit. All ccts must be supplied via a DOUBLE pole RCD which breaks the L and N at the same time. Most RCD's only break the live poles. hope this helps springer
  6. Hi All, Can anyone tell me the way to find the correct hand for the Alternator on my Kelvin P2r diesel engine? thanks Nigel
  7. thanks martyn , i will check the breather but my guess is thatll be ok as i had previously thoroughly cleaned all these parts Njgel
  8. thats because, open cell is better for sound proofing and closed cell is better for insulating, so, I put 25mm closed cell on engine bay bulkhead then 25mm open cell on top for sound proofing. mmmmmm........25 metres all over !!! what the hell are you sailing???
  9. hi martyn We've spoken before actually, when i pressure tested the water side of the system some time agoo.. The engine has had new cylinder head gasget, valve springs and end bearings according to the invoice the gent whom i bought the engine off of gave me on purchase , he did the work in 2001 and i bought it in 2014. He started it at the time albeit on easy start, but as i said had a different filler cap with a hole in the top where the chain used to be and no seal, so i guess it was releasing the pressure there. I stripped the rest down and cleaned replaced seals ,any damaged parts and new exhuast box, gaskets , ect. and have had it running ok before i rectiyed the oil filler seal and cap. So , where do i go from here Please? Nig
  10. guys, The spray foam is of a closed cell format which has a better insulation value than the open cell DIY type you can buy. To Clarify: The spray company calculated for 8mm thickness minimum, but is very hard to achieve and you would expect 30 to 50% expansion anyway, but the installation engineer ended up spraying more than enough which then measured roughly 25mm after expansion. i would post a photo but cant seem to work out how to....! Nigel
  11. hi charlie, i have just renovated my 30 foot springer and had it spray foamed from top to nearly bottom, only required 8mm thickness to give you excellent insulation value but ended up a lot thicker nearer 25mm, lot less faffing than kingspan or any of the insulation you have to seal up yourself, and also seals all the awkward places difficult to get at. A great quick job for a Total cost of £800. nigel
  12. Hi Guys Having recently part renovated my p2r it now appears to have exhaust gases coming from the dipstick and filler cap , which i only noticed after i replaced the filler cap lid washer and the dipstick blew out when it was running!! any ideas with the cause please? Nigel
  13. actually, i think you will find that 25mm2 is totally different to 25 sq mm..!
