  1. We keep our boat at Pyrford whilst living in Australia, staff and fellow Sea Otter owners keep a friendly eye on her. Over in a couple of weeks time, will keep an eye out for her
  2. Probably time to start planning your second trip........recommend Mon and Brec for hiring on during autumn. Our first hire trip, resulted in many more and eventual boat ownership !
  3. Another tip used in automotive industry to remove old pin striping, etc attach tubing to a just boiling kettle and play end around removal area. The mixture of steam and hot water will soften plastic and glue. Can be a bit hot on fingertips but better than burning underlying paint with hot air method.
  4. Many thanks for all the good feedback, we will see if Wharf House is suitable, if not either Calcutt or maybe Cropredy or Fennny Compton. If all else fails I'll get Ray T to give us a hand shoving it in off the bank ! We are allowing just over 3 weeks to get back to Pyrford, hopefully with a detour to Lechlade. As we travel around the world to get on the cut our cruising style is very relaxed, lots of stops for the local cider and elsan points ! Cheers TASmanian sea OTTER.
  5. We are planning a trip from Braunston back to our home marina at Pyrford next year. As time is limited, we are on holiday from Australia, and our boat is a trailerable 27' Sea Otter we are trying to find a nearby slipway. Does anybody know of one or in the area or used one ? Thanks for help.
  6. I have nothing to say but good things about Pyrford Marina. We bought our Sea Otter narrowboat sight unseen through them ! Peter the salesman responded to every email straight away, and because we live in Australia we got the surveyor to do a video river trial for us. 9 months after buying our boat we flew in, had it trailed to Whixall Marina and enjoyed 4 weeks on the Llangollen. Our boat is back at Pyrford where it has a monthly check and run by the crew there. Out of 30 companies contacted only 3 responded, Pyrford, Rugby and Abnb. Whilton refused to deal with us ! So missed out as they had a boat we probably would have bought. As previously mentioned the only downside at Pyrford is there aren't a lot of boats for sale there, but if they have got what you want......negotiate, we did. Stowford press cider, bangers and mash at the local pub another good reason to visit....Cheers
  7. Our Sea Otter is 16 years old, never been painted and taken out of water for the first time some weeks ago. No rust, only a few minor dents and only needs painting cosmetically around the hatch. If you've got the money I rest my case...try doing that with steel !
  8. Wire coat hangers duly added to our luggage when we fly in, seem to be carrying rather a lot of potentially useful stuff, have to have some duty free room left .....
  9. Yes thanks Mike, am up to required number now.
  10. Our Sea Otter is raw water cooled, I presume this makes it easier to get blocked and overheat unless cleared ASAP. We are trailering to Llangollen soon, is this weed free due to current flow and number of boats ?
  11. Hi Penny Yes it's 5 or 6 but they have to be on different topics. Will post a few more replies to different topics, then PM you. Cheers Mark
  12. A much loved 26' Sea Otter going by its owners posts in the Sea Otter Club. Mark
  13. Hi Wey Lass My wife and I are holidaying in the UK next month with our 26' Sea Otter at Pyrford Marina. We are trailering to and from the Llangollen for 4 weeks but will finish up on the Wey for 2 weeks prior to our return to Australia at the end of September. Perhaps we can cruise from Pyrford to Guildford one day, I'm sure my wife would appreciate any help with the locks ! We have hired before but are looking forward to finally getting on our boat, bought sight unseen but carefully checked over prior to purchase..... I am still new on the forum so need to do a few more posts before I can pm. Cheers Mark
  14. Hi Jayne Interested to read your post and replies re Llangollen canal. More amazing your location ! We are fellow Tasmanians who have done 3 UK hire boat trips ( 2 x Mon & Brec, and Kennet & Avon ). We have taken the big step and are in the process of buying a 26" Sea Otter. Although based on the River Wey we will get it transported to Llangollen for a 6 week next year. Happy to share our experiences if you want, have you done much narrow boating ? Cheers
