  1. That Ebay part should be fine. I am not on the boat at present, so you may want to confirm the thread size for the washer. If its 3/8" then a 3/8 washer (or 10mm). If the filter has not been sealing well in the past it will help to get the best surface on the sealing faces, either skim or use some fine wet and dry on a flat surface.
  2. OK I was aiming to seal on the OD of the ring as follows. The gasket is 3" OD so 76.2 mm. 69mm ID Oring at 3.5 cross section gives 76 mm and thus should fit close within the outer edge of the housing groove Any pressure would thus push the ring out against the groove. Its worked for me but if the smaller ring works too that's another option.
  3. It may be worth reworking the coil in the feed from the day tank to avoid the air trap? Just make the coil horizontal so that it automatically vents to the filter body?
  4. Ebay item 151667641154 £15 or best offer. Alternatively (and larger) if you like the steampunk/retro look make an offer on this 131446391070
  5. You could try something like this as a bypass that can be plumbed in:- http://www.cranefs.com/files/productDataSheets/D2890_D2880_TCV_DS_CraneFS.pdf Occassionally these (or eqivalents form either Crane or other companys) come up on Fleabay, they are quite pricey new.
  6. see this original Dowty sales material. Quote "effective and reliable face sealing at high and low pressures" http://www.potterassoc.com/pdf/bonded_seal_information_and_sizing_chart.pdf
  7. That's an interesting view. The rubber is moulded to be thicker than the steel backing ring. There is no requirement to "crush" the steel ring, and that is no how they are designed to work. Consequently they work fine at low pressure.
  8. Ebay, use a viton or nitrile to ensure long term resistance to the fuel.. see previous post below:- Posted 02 June 2014 - 04:16 PM Problem solved. Fitted an O ring instead of the paper/cardboard(?) gasket supplied with the filter and now it's no problem at all. I used 69 mm by 3.5 mm cross section nitrile ring. Gardner Enthusiast seemed to think there had been no problem with the seals they have supplied. Chris Just looked at the parts list again, it is probably a 3/8 W thread as the sealing washer is shown as 13/32 I.D., so too large for 5/16 stud.
  9. Going back to the original post, how did you break this? I had trouble getting my filter to seal with the "cardboard" joint rings that come with the filters. I have changed to using an O-rings woth a Dowty seal under the nut and now the filter is leak free with minimal torque on the nut.
  10. The nut is 5/16" whit part number 153NU so is it the same thread at each end? By the way this is my interpretation of the parts manual, it actually says 3/8 Wh by 5/16 Hex, but you would struggle to make that combination!

  12. We have an Airlink BT3231. Currently installed in a cupboard at the rear of the boat immediately next to the incoming shore supply socket, thus limiting the cable length on the boat before the transformer. In future I will examine a location below the back cabin floor (they may be space - just). The case looks resilient enough to place it there but I will give it some careful thought first regarding IP ratings etc. It seems well enough made, my only recollection was that the seal for the top cover is relativly flimsy plastic foam. In service it has a slight hum. I would probably find this irritating in a bedroom but its fine where it is on our boat.
  13. The first two sentences of the original post had it about right, the approach was enthusiastic and he praised the CaRT staff and volunteers and wanted more people to realise what the waterways have to offer. Sorry to be boring and not keep the criticism going, but the man did what you would expect him to do in the slot he was given.
  14. The VuQube for £477 will probably be the remote control but non-automatic one. We have the auto version. Sling it on the roof pointing vaguely south, press the button and let it get on with things whilst I do something else. If there is line of site to the satellite it will work in short order. Ours is mounted on four magnetic pads so does not blow away. When not in use it sits alongside the engine and is completely out of the way. I prefer this to the permanently mounted dish approach (auto or not) In my view this is OK but it all depends on your willingness/ability to set up a dish every time you stop and want TV. The longer you stay in one place the less of a nuisance it is to manually align the dish.

Try the Anson museum? They may have information or someone who knows how?
  16. I believe the festival is planned for this weekend, but the website says 3 pubs rather than the usual 6. Does anyone have up to date information as I am tempted to go. Thanks Mods, if this is wrong forum section, feel free to relocate to the correct place
  17. I had a look when we passed there at Easter, I could not see any access track.
  18. I suspect the lower price is the automated estimate the likes of zoopla gives, I think this is based on size, no of rooms, and local prices for similar size properties, but will not include amenity like canal location, views etc etc.
  19. Not sure it's a bargain. No road access, no mains electricity or gas. Very nice location though.
  20. Do you mean this, if so it was 280k last year but currently shown as removed from sale. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-46515337.html 3 bedroom detached house for sale Claydon, Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX17 1TDA former forge believed to date from the late 17th century. Constructed of brick under a tile roof and benefiting many interesting period features. Adjacent to Top Lock on the Oxford Canal and approached on foot by the canal tow path Recently improved for modern day living including upgrading of the heating system and general insulation. The property offers potential to extend and link into the outbuildings, subject to the relevant consents. A range of useful barns and stores ideal for hobbies, business and holiday lets, subject to the relevant consents. Gardens are situated to the front of the property and mainly laid to lawn with flower and shrub borders.
  21. my recollection is about 300k but I cannot now find a listing. Do you know the agents? Edited to add, I may have misunderstood, do you mean the cottage/barn etc at Claydon Top lock which was for sale last year with Fisher German?
  22. I have been trying to find some video showing smoke from our 3LW (or lack thereof). Best I can find is this, I had hoped it would have the exhaust in full sun and be more convincing, but its all I have. This was last October, a rather cool but bright day and after the engine had warmed up (n case detailed analysis is needed) I'd be interested to hear if the OP is worried by this level of exhaust fume or not. Note no band over the exhaust, I prefer to straight up discharge and am not afraid of spiders (though have had to sweep the roof after a low tunnel!)
  23. I passed by the Somerton lock recently and there are signs of vehicular access via the margin of the fields, so I guess the owner may have an arrangement with the Farmer which would reduce the burden considerably. The Kings Sutton cottage was for sale at 495k plus IIRC 3k per year for use of the access track. Note also Grade II listed building. Overall a hefty price tag. Whilst many of the cottages on the Oxford are attractive, the access rights and cost are significant to say the least, however, it would be a great loss if they fall in to disrepair and are lost. Edited to add extract from Kings Sutton (Travers Lock) sales blurb:- Access Tarvers Lock Cottage has a pedestrian right of way down the towpath along the Oxford Canal. Private access for vehicles and pedestrians is via a mile long track from the Aynho Road, Adderbury, which passes principally over New College Estate land. This access is for owners, visitors and guests only. A new 125 year lease at a rent of £3,000 per annum will be available to the purchaser from New College (subject to contract).
  24. I have a copy key, bougt to replace a lost BW key. Sometimes its OK and sometimes (too often) its not. The Thrupp lift bridge absolutely refuses to accept the copy key and works immediately on a CaRT/BW key (I borrowed one from a helpful hire boat). So last week I spend the £10 or so and ordered an official key. I wish I had done this in the first place.
