  1. There's a good article in the December edition of Waterways World about navigating the BCN. It gives suggested times for the sections. Route is exactly what you propose as far as I can see. Pete
  2. Thanks Tony, Well at least it seems to protect against rust coming through which is what interested me. You mentioned that there was rust at the joint with the gloss . . that seems reasonable to me. Pity that it losed paint from the top of the granuals, but I suppose that's inevitable, but it's good that you can overcoat it with no problem Was it reasonably easy to put on? Did you use their roller or a brush Thanks Pete
  3. I have searched the forums and can't find anybody who has used Protectakote for their cabin top. Does anybody have any experience of using this product? Thanks Peter
  4. Thanks very much Alan and Malcolm. Very interesting information and very good photos and descriptions from the Tuesday Night Club pages. In spite of the fact that I've done considerable offshore sailing, I don't think this passage in a Narrowboat is for the 'faint hearted' ! I'll start by getting the Imray Chart of the Wash to see what navigational aids there are first. Any more info greatly appreciated Peter
  5. Has anybody crossed 'The Wash' in a narrowboat from either Kings Lynn or Wisbech to Boston. Or maybe somebody has done some research on it ? Thanks Peter
  6. The Fuelset website is difficult to navigate. The cheapest product I can see there is £10.00 ish including VAT and delivery. It describes this a 'one shot' Is that enough ?? I have a 40 gallon diesel tank ?? Thanks Peter
  7. Having just come down the Nene from Northampton to Peterborough I have to say that although the majority of the Guillotine Locks are now electrified, the unsuspecting (like me) can have problems at the MANUAL locks! Although one has to accept that it needs around 190 turns of the wheel to raise (and lower) the gate, having released the locking pin to 'free' the wheel (using the EA key) there seemed no way to get the locking pin back into the wheel after use, or indeed to keep the wheel from unwinding of its own accord. (decapitation came to mind) Unfortunately, there were very few people about in early October and I have to say that evenually, some kind person who had also been in the same predicament showed us how to do it, after haing phoned the EA For the benefit of anyone who is making this passage for the first time therefore, THERE IS A SMALL FINGER HOLE AT THE BACK OF THE METAL BOX CONTAINING THE KEY AND BOLT MECHANISM. You just need to push the bolt back against the spring (into the hole in the wheel) and then push the lock back in place. PHEW ! I said my piece and hopefully it will save others the stress of the problem. Pete
  8. OK Jon, thanks very much I see that most other things are working now . . much appreciated Peter
  9. Final Thoughts (Hopefully!) Worcester Marine have now 'laid claim' to the manufacture of the windows - they still make them and can supply the bits. Thanks again to everyone who helped Still can't send or receive e-mails unfortunately. Best to all Peter
  10. I evenually managed to register for the website (3 attempts) but people are not able to PM me and I can't PM them either. Also I can't change information on my profile. All I get is an Error message in brown typeface telling me that I am not allowed to use this facilty or something similar. Can someone help please as I want to play a fuller par on the website. Thanks very much Peter (peterboy)
  11. Alan, Very sorry about not being able to PM me. I only had success after the third time I registered for this website and even now I can't PM, I can't alter my profile etc etc. It just says comes up with a message 'I am not allowed to do this' It's very frustrating, but I don't even get a relpy from the 'site crew' when I try and rectify things. Pity really as I want to play a more active part. Best regards Peter
  12. Thanks very much Tommo and Daniel . . I'll e-mail them in the morning . . certainly looks very positive ! Very grateful for everyone's hard work! Best Pete Thanks very much Tommo and Daniel . . I'll e-mail them in the morning . . certainly looks very positive ! Very grateful for everyone's hard work! Best Pete
  13. Hi Tommo Wouldnt' be Worcester Marine Windows? or maybe Seaglaze? Thanks and regards Pete
  14. Hi Bottle (Keith) Yes thanks a lot, I did look at the link and I'm sure they will have a suitable profile. It's going to be a week before I can get down to cut a bit off to match it so I thought I'd like to see if anybody recognised the make as they would probably sell the original seals. Thanks Pete
  15. Thanks again Alan, I sent the picture to Channel Glaze and they have confirmed that it's not on of their windows unfortunately. Maybe you can point me in the direction of other likely narrowboat window makers? Best regards Pete
