  1. Hillmorton locks do great work and not far from you at dunchurch. 01788562183
  2. Are hypothetical questions too difficult to answer?. Hypothetically, how would it have been settled had it been a private boat?
  3. 1. The boat did not stop. If it was a private boat who are you to call? And would you bother?. If less trivial than this incident then your options are limited to claiming on your own insurance and letting them pursue the boat- if you got their name and index number 2. If you would deal with a private boat on the spot why did you not do so in this case? 3.i do not condone any boat hitting any other boat but it exasperates me that hire boats are singled out for claims when contact occurs. All boats should be treated equally and I know of no one who would pursue a private boater in this way. The question is still the same, how would it have been settled if it had been a private boat?
  4. Why the obsession with claiming 'because it's a hire boat'. What would you do if a private boat hit you?. Why treat hire boats differently?
  5. We used to use raddle red for engineering marking and indication in exactly the same way as engineering blue. It was made from an iron oxide mixed with oil to produce a paste, I suspect that this is the origin of the term. Although not designed or required to set, dry or cure it would eventually harden and to all intents and purposes look like red oxide paint. This raddle red I beleive pre dated engineering blue and was certainly around in the 1930's if not earlier. It was also a term referring to some sort of colouring used to 'raddle' front door steps! Possibly a Portland cement colouring?
  6. Of course all in surfers have their own requirements but don't believe MTB's bullshit either. Just because you have not been asked to prove a) minimum hull thickness or to provide a hull survey does not mean that it is not in the policy small print somewhere and will be trotted out when / if a claim is made. Several insurers require a hull survey every four years after 20 years old, but they do not ask you for it every fourth year. This will not stop them from providing cover up until the point at which a claim is made. As with all insurances it is vital to read all of your policy documents and to understand the relevant terms and conditions - before you need to make a claim. Buyer beware as always.
  7. Much better facilities and job at Hillmorton locks. Some real stunners come out of there
  8. Hi Nothing to worry about, light pitting tells me original thickness was 6 mm . Min insurable standard is 4 mm. Sail on and enjoy!,
  9. Why is everyone obsessed with claiming from a hire company? What do people do who are hit by privately owned or shared ownership boats? It seems to me that people assume that if they are in collision with a hire boat then a) the hire boat is automatically to blame and a claim must be made. What happens when a hire boat is hit by a private boat and the private boat is at fault?
