  2. Hi Dor The antifreeze mixture has been well mixed having drained the system several times and the mixture placed into a 25 litre bucket for reuse. I only have 4 rads on one side and a calorifier with ball valves fitted so that I can isolate it. The system is working fine but like I said when it comes to draining the system again I will not be able to get it going again without the service pump hence the requirement of a 240v pump. That said it has just occured to me that my boat has not been launched yet and would the movement of the boat once on water make any difference ? ie : the rocking action. Just a thought.
  3. You certainly cant shoot them with any type of weapon on or over BW property, but there is no law aginst taking them from adjoining property with the owners consent and within the hunting or shooting season. But you used the word kill and I have seen nothing which says you cant hang them.
  4. Hi Does anyone know of a suitable 240v pump that will not impede the flow of hot water whilst using the original 12v pump as supplied ? The reason I ask this is because the 12v pump as supplied with the heater is in no way man enough to purge the system whilst filling it and when full will not pump any water round due to the obviously small pockets of air that are still in the pipes. There is nothing tricky about the system layout and nowhere for large pockets of air to hide (except perhaps in the boiler itself ). I have contacted Alde several times over the pump issue and to cut a long story short they sent out on loan a service pump which they have designed to purge systems but emphasised that it is usually only necessary on complicated motorhome systems and at the same time suggested that I remove the one way valve out of the boiler flow pipe as it was not needed on a narrowboat system. I drained the system low enough to remove the valve as suggested and the boiler made a lot of encouraging sounds. Ha I thought that sounds good , probably a faulty valve all along ,so I filled the system back up and fired up the boiler trying the original 12v pump. 30mins later only the nearest radiator felt warm (not hot ) and the return pipe at the boiler was cold. Hmm failed. I then put their service pump ( Heath Robinson affair, 2 pumps strapped together)) into the header tank switched just one pump on and the water circulated instantly. I put the original 12 v pump back in and 20mins later all the rads were hot and only small amounts of bleeding at the rads to make it perfect. The point being in 2 years time and the antifreeze needs changing, I cant do it. If I need to drain the system for any reason really, I cant do it without the service pump. Contacted Alde and all they really wanted to do was sell me a more powerfull 12v pump, obviously more power hungry than the one supplied which was part of the attraction. I have 240v on board so I would like to install a cheap (in comparison) domestic pump which will only be used for service applications ie : 2mins every 2 years hopefully. Any suggestions please ?
  5. Its interesting to see that we only have 3 more mallards than swans.
  6. Its not a survey. Its BWs way of getting the public involved in a little game ,leaving said public in a sense of being involved in something important. You can be sure a lot of mistakes in the identification of the different makes will have been made. That'll learn em.
  7. Canada geese are there but have been identified as swans.
  8. Ha ,it all makes sense now and if I were to bring millipeads into the equation it would all be a nonsense again , so I wont.
  9. So how can we be sure none of them has been counted twice ?
  10. Well its more of a stock take really so they know what speicies to buy in and which ones to get rid of. One more mallard for a start cause Gaggles just eaten it.
  11. Give it a rent book. It will soon leave.
  12. Would there be enough current to power my tunnel light and horn ? NO NO NO only joking Thanks Dor
  13. Thanks Gibbo I was thinking gas pipe and is now certain, but how to insulate the pipe where it exits the gas locker and passes through the front bulkhead. Hmm
  14. Whilst tinkering with my alde boiler today I managed to accidentaly dislodge the negative cable, I was a bit puzzled at first if indeed it was the negative connection to the Alde because the boiler was still running. It soon became apparent that it was indeed the negative to the Alde so I turned the power off,out of curiosity I turned the power back on and the boiler fired up without the negative connected. Is this normal ?

    chain it down

Apparently you can still hear underwater but not quite as well, so a talking to they shall have. I of course would give them the right to reply.
  17. I said I was going to leave it but I see where your coming from now. Well it just beggars belief at times ,but dont you seem to get a sense they are going to do that and take the necessary action to avoid it ? That is obviously experience kicking in.
  18. I agree with that, it was just the description of float from lane to lane. Many a time I have had to do just that to get by someone who is travelling in the middle lane of a near empty motorway overtaking absolutely nothing. Its one of my pet hates so I will leave it now.
  19. What do you mean by that ? Drivers who know how to overtake properly, or drivers who move from the inside lane of a motorway to the outside lane to overtake the pratt who has decided to turn a perfectly good motorway into a dual carriage way.

  21. Heres a nice piece of land with 200m of river frontage and and 3.19acres of land. Full PP for moorings. Its under offer but that means relativly nothing. 4 X 50m moorings £18000 each and then fight over the land Just a thought. http://www.findaproperty.com/displayprop.a...p;agentid=22476 Much better value than the one this post is about. Edited to remove double post
  22. I think the major use of PEX pipe is used for underfloor heating. Try this site, you should get the answere your looking for. http://www.johnguest.com/
  23. Almost there but the degree, like paramedic, paralegal how about paraengineer ?
  24. Thanks Alan,I will try that tomorrow. The man did check the system with a manometer before he left but no where near 20 mins as someone mentioned in an earlier post.
