One thing has just occurred to me.
The man who died was on a boat, called Swansong, moored at Willington.
Does this ring a bell with anyone.
(Hint, Front page of NBW a few days ago).
Hmm, certainly got on Old Toms wick.

An old one but,
How does the driver of the snow plough get to work ?

Those fish have been naughty, stirring up the mud and eating things they should'nt.

The docs can be downloaded here http://www.rcdweb.com/
Thanks Morphyous ,
maybe I should have put free download as that site requires a small fee of £506 to access the site.

I am thinking of putting the RCD document together myself for my own boat even though I have no intention of selling it. Does anyone know where a sample document may be downloaded. I know these documents will vary but I will hopefully get the gist of what is required.

Clicked on the forum and was directed to login page which now tells me only registered members can view the forums , not wanting to register and log in i then clicked the back button which done nothing at all.
Does anyone try out these additions to check if they work or is it hit and miss.
Nigel banned ! how long before it states members must read daily mail or face a ban.
I was looking at it yesterday and now it looks like registered members only. Shame really as I was looking forward to following the 48hr thread. I could always sign up I suppose but that would be mercenary just to see Carlt become it s second victim.

For the past few days I have been having similar problems getting insurance for a m/bike + sidecar, sadly my favourite insurer, Saga won't quote me.
Anyone have any suggestions..
To my great surprise none of the company's will offer a discount for the sidecar, in my youth they would offer around 90% discount on the grounds that the insured must be a dim 'bank clerk' wrinkly who is reluctant to get through 2nd gear.
Hi John ,
have a look here - http://www.onlyinsurance.com/Bike-Insuranc...-available.aspx
I have no idea what they are like though.

Isn't the non-frozen fish miracle because of one of the strange properties of water. If I remember my "O" level physics, at near zero centigrade the density of water reduces, so the ice is on the top, +1 below that, +2 below that again and so on to about +4c. So the bottom of the pond is warmer than the top.
Richard
I believe its called a thermocline where the dropping temperature causes the warm top layer to sink to the bottom. The interesting part is where it takes all the water borne particles with it hence the water becoming gin clear.

How British - talking about poo at half two on Christmas Day... I'm inclined to agree with boatgypsy here and wonder about the eco impact of bagging up poop and sealing it in plastic for...well for how long....as long as it takes for a plastic bag to degrade....a few centuries perhaps? As a responsible dog owner we make sure poop is deposited in the hedgerow...
I'm sure I read it on this forum, but most of those poo bags hanging in trees have been put there by boaty people. They sit and stare at them through the boat window , its exactly the same as TV and you dont have to buy a license.

Its a rare skill, being able to tie a spade end hook - and I'm pleased to see you have your priorities in order
Is that some sort of garden implement ?

I am thinking about buying some wholesale water pipes from this company in China http://www.liangdianup.com/tobacciana_z.htm
but I am not sure if they are legal to bring in to the states? What are the laws on water pipes, bongs, and pipes?
I think you've taken a wrong turning somewhere along the way.

No they aren"t!!!! They are vegetarian,
Merry Christmas!
Stickleback
Sorry to dissapoint you stickleback but I am afraid they are not. They will happily eat insects, bird eggs, young birds and other small rodents.

Yippie I am really appreciating the need for more light in the evenings, what with cycling home and having the boat. recently been waking up in the dark and getting home when it's dark.
happy yule.
What was explained to me yesterday by my farmer friend , is that for the next couple of weeks the evenings will not get any lighter but the mornings will. I tried to find the joke but apparently its true. Can anybody confirm this ?

Suprised no one has come back with thermal imaging data. Come on, somebody must be able to get their hands on thermal equipment and possibly save me £90.

Worst, (and surprisingly common) in my experience, is the half empty tin of sweetcorn with the lid bent slightly downward into the tin. A well thought out duck trap that should take hours of gentle incision before the poor beast expires. Hours of fun for all the family.
Or even the empty luncheon meat tin that is a must for an inquisitive tongue.

You say that nobody there is a snob.
I must disagree.
YOU are a snob, and have shown yourself to be a snob in this thread and the screaming babies thread.

Almost the best of both worlds - a bank-side mooring inside a marina!
If you dont mind me asking where abouts is that marina ?
-
Exactly and without Mink we wouldnt have fur coats. I rest my case. Leave em alone
Dont be silly of course we would. Rabbit , Fox , Otter, Badger, Stoat , Kittens and there must be some seal pups around.

Poll! Poll!!
I wouldn't dream of being in a marina, whilst living aboard but, now I'm not, I would definitely say "marina".
Nothing quite so regimented or sterile as the one pictured, though.
Funny you should say that but thats how I would have described all the marinas I have looked at so far ( not many I must admit ). My plans for next spring are shall we say scuppered , untill broken Britain starts to get back on her feet I shall be looking for a marina. Where are all these mature gravel pits that are used for marinas, I have only found 2 on the internet, Bill Fen and Farndon that seem to look the part but are to far away. I'm based near Milton Keynes any ideas ?

Or, depending where you live, return to find a pile of broken window glass and some tyre tracks....
And then smashed into a tree a 100yards down the road because the thief coud'nt see out of the windscreen whilst trying to find the fag lighter.
Edited to say, seriously a blanket or even newspaper on the outside of the windscreen will help with the frozen windscreen issue.

I was researching sources of windows for my wheelhouse and came across Worcester's S-type windows (not a Jaguar or a Mercedes) which allow a sheet of steel to be inserted in place of the glass. Interesting concept - has anyone had any experience of them?
Ive got them. Yes you could put a sheet of steel in place of the glass but I can assure you one kick and whoever will be in, so probably safer for the villain than glass. On the plus side it will obviously save the glass from the stone throwers and also stop anyone peering in. The only advantage I can see of these windows is that you can clean all of the windows without turning the boat round.
Edited to say I've just come back from the boat and looking at them again there is a small locking pin, should anyone try and kick the steel plate in you could end up having to replace the entire window not just the glass.

I'd go for the public health clause, personally...
Geese poo is slippery, geese wings are at least as sturdy as those of swans (and everyone knows that swans' wings can break your arm you know...), they scare my labrador when she gets close to them and their feathers make me sneeze....
You missed Air Raid.
Have you never seen a squadron of 300 come over a gravel pit to roost on the water for the night. Cover is definately required as you see them carpet bombing the lake surface heading towards you and then the pitter patter all around you.

Are you sure the antifreeze/water mixture was well mixed before you filled the system? I've got five rads and a calorifier on my 3010, and the distance from the boiler to the furthest rad is about 50ft (down the side, across the back and up the other side) with 4 rads on that run, another rad Teed off going the other way and the calorifier Teed off at the back.
Initially, although trying to fill the system with similar strength mixture (1/3 AF, 2/3 water) I had problems with the system just not circulating. It took quite a lot of purging to get the air out of the system, but eventually it stopped gurgling at the pump and it seemed to be circulating ok. Turning the pump on & off seemed to help get rid of the air, but it did take quite a while. However it still wouldn't get the rads hot and I eventually bled them into a jug, pouring the mix back into the header tank (used ali foil to make a sort of funnel to collect the water).
The system is now fine and works really well. The rads heat up quickly and so does the calorifier if I need to top up the hot water in the morning. A bit of a hassle, but it is not something you have to do frequently. Getting the AF/water mix consistent does seem to be critical though with the low power Alde pump. The advbantage of that pump though is that it uses very little power.
Hi Dor
The antifreeze mixture has been well mixed having drained the system several times and the mixture placed into a 25 litre bucket for reuse. I only have 4 rads on one side and a calorifier with ball valves fitted so that I can isolate it. The system is working fine but like I said when it comes to draining the system again I will not be able to get it going again without the service pump hence the requirement of a 240v pump. That said it has just occured to me that my boat has not been launched yet and would the movement of the boat once on water make any difference ? ie : the rocking action. Just a thought.

Just as a matter of information, does anybody know if it is legal to kill and consume duck, goose etc from the canal ? Seems they are a wonderful free food resource, as well as being very tasty.
You certainly cant shoot them with any type of weapon on or over BW property, but there is no law aginst taking them from adjoining property with the owners consent and within the hunting or shooting season. But you used the word kill and I have seen nothing which says you cant hang them.
